What we’re about
San Diego Machine Learning is an active group for AI & data science education and networking. We are machine learning practitioners, students, and enthusiasts who want to get together to share, discuss and try various techniques -- and possibly hack on the occasional challenge. We have a wide range of experience levels with machine learning either through work, school or personal exploration. We currently have a monthly papers & lightning talks event, book clubs, project time, networking, and a mix of other ML events. Everyone is welcome!
For more information about our AI talks and ML book club, please visit our GitHub repositories: https://github.com/SanDiegoMachineLearning/talks and https://github.com/SanDiegoMachineLearning/bookclub

See all- Computer Vision -- Kickoff Session -- HybridAquillius, San Diego, CA
Computer Vision
We are starting a new series on computer vision! This will be mix of content from the book Computer Vision: Algorithms and Applications by Richard Szeliski and the workshop series Practical Computer Vision by Antonio Rueda-Toicen. A PDF copy of the book is downloadable from the book website (https://szeliski.org/Book/), and the workshops are available on GitHub (https://github.com/andandandand/practical-computer-vision).
The kickoff session will introduce the format of the series, talk about the history of computer vision, and provide an opportunity to meet other learners. Everyone is welcome to join.
Come join us in person or online. Please make sure to read the instructions for joining the event below.
Agenda:
- 12:00 - 1:30 pm -- Welcome and introduction
- Time permitting -- Additional Q&A, networking
Links to notes/slides and videos of prior meetups are available on the SDML GitHub repo https://github.com/SanDiegoMachineLearning/bookclub
Location:
We are trying a new location in Rancho Bernardo**. Please come to the correct address!**Please Note: There are two steps required to join the online meetup:
- You must go to our Slack community and ask for the password for the meeting. Link to join is below.

Please bring a laptop and be ready to work, this is a technical session where we will try to code and work on a kaggle competition
Kaggle Competition
https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/cmi-detect-behavior-with-sensor-dataFor this cycle we will try to work on the CMI - Detect Behavior with Sensor Data. No experience on this kind of problem is required, we can set you up on Kaggle and start learning about the problem together. You don't need your own GPU to try this problem out, you can get by with what is available for free through Kaggle. We will try to make this as approachable as possible
Agenda:
For this meeting we will be getting everyone setup on Kaggle and begin digging into the competition. Since this is the first session we will have an intro to Kaggle as well as some discussion about how to be successful and maximize your learning potential from this experience.
