Power
After reading Robert Greene's "48 Laws of Power," it should be interesting discussing the application of agency.
Some questions to facilitate discussion:
1. Ethics vs. Effectiveness: To what extent do "the ends justify the means" in relationships? How do power dynamics benefit all involved? What are the pros and cons of concentrated power? What constitutes abuse versus a proper exercise of ability?
2 Is power inherently zero-sum, or can it be mutually beneficial? Can genuinely collaborative relationships exist within power hierarchies, or is every relationship ultimately transactional?
3. How do context and culture shape which "laws" are effective or even applicable? How do factors like organizational culture, national culture, gender dynamics, and technological transparency affect which strategies work? Which laws are context-dependent?
4. What is the relationship between perceived power and actual power, and how does authenticity factor in? How can someone be both strategically calculating (as Greene advises) and genuinely authentic?
