***
Land Trust Days is a statewide, 2 month celebration of the many special places protected by land trusts. Land trusts across the state host activities to share the special places they are protecting for everyone, young and old to enjoy. These events include guided walks, community festivals, full moon walks, farm tours and a whole lot more.
Please note: some events may require registration outside of MeetUp. Please read event descriptions carefully.
Check out our website for Land Trust sponsored activities. Rhode Island Land Trust Days is a project of the Rhode Island Land Trust Council.
Please note that events are posted to this group on behalf of land trusts across Rhode Island. The members of this group generally do not 'meet up' officially, but rather attend the events as participants. If you'd like to attend with other members, feel free to coordinate in the discussion sections of events.

Step outside and bring your creativity into the open air with local artist Trish Hurley. In this four-part plein air series, you’ll learn the foundations of outdoor sketching and painting while exploring the beautiful landscapes of SKLT properties.
Each class begins with a short discussion and live demonstration, where Trish introduces techniques in spatial design, composition, and atmospheric perspective. You’ll then set up with your own materials to sketch or paint on-site, using nature as your subject. Trish will move among participants, offering individual guidance and tips to help you develop your eye and technique. Sessions wrap up with a group critique, where everyone shares their work in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Over the course of the series, you’ll practice:
- Capturing light, shadow, and changing skies
- Simplifying forms to convey the essence of a landscape (less is more)
- Using composition to guide the viewer’s eye
- Experimenting with your choice of medium—drawing, watercolor, oil, or more
Please bring lightweight, outdoor-friendly materials and consider accessibility when choosing easels or supplies.
Trish, a South Kingstown artist whose work has been exhibited across the U.S., has taught art in New England since 2006. She lives locally with her husband, Steve, and their cat, Bubba.
Dates: September 10th, September 17th, September 28th, October 1st
Time: 1:00 – 3:30 PM
Price: $100 for non-members.
$75 for SKLT Members.
OR come to one session for $25. While attending a single session is possible if absolutely necessary, we ask that participants sign up for the full course whenever possible, as this helps maintain the flow of the class.
Join us for this unique opportunity to learn, create, and connect with nature through art!
