What we’re about
PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE JOINING:
Welcome! We are a diverse group of people in their 30s and 40s who work hard and play hard! If you are new to MeetUp, we can't wait to meet you! If not, come on down and enjoy all the fun and community you expect from great MeetUp groups.
This is an all inclusive group for people in their 30s and 40s, designed to bring diverse people together. Here, women are empowered, good guys are respected, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+ and Allies are celebrated, equality is upheld, and differences are appreciated.
Rules:
1. Must have a picture of you and a real name when you join. You will be booted but can rejoin after fixing.
2. Meet BEFORE messaging non-host members, or preferably exchange numbers in person. This isn't a dating app, though some people do wind up dating, this group starts with building friendship.
3. Please inform the host or Admins Mike & Jenea if you experience any inappropriate behavior. We strive to make this a safe and inclusive place for all people. ZERO tolerance for violence and non-consensual touching. If a situation escalates, please step away, and connect with admin for solutions.
4. Treat yourself and others with respect and kindness. Behave respectfully, treat people with respect. Don't be a bigot, don't tolerate bigotry.
5. Must be between 30 and 49 years old when joining. Those who age out are still included. You only need to be in the age range when joining.
Please submit your event recommendations to one of our organizers or discussion thread. Leisurely hikes after brunch, beach parties, family BBQs, night out at the pub, wine walks, local events, exploring dining options, card night... all ideas welcome.
This group is free to use! However the group owner pays MeetUp dues of $98.94 every 6 months/twice yearly on January 15 and July 15. If you would like to donate to cover this cost, you can message Mike C or Venmo him @MikeCurtis76 There is an “online” MeetUp scheduled before the due date where I track the donation totals. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/star-lake-via-cold-creek-trail-and-high-meadows-road?sh=6cbphu&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_viralityThere are a couple of parking options for High Meadow Trailhead near South Lake Tahoe. You can park at the end of High Meadow Road off Pioneer Trail, or at the water substation just past Sierra House School on Pioneer Trail. Additionally, there's a small dirt parking area further up High Meadow Road, but it's not recommended for low-clearance vehicles and is only open during the summer.
10am Start hike, please review the hike details on AllTrails. There is quite a lot of elevation gain, 2700 over 7 miles.
1pm Set up camp near Star Lake, play in lake, explore area, hang out.
6pm back to camp, eat, prep for evening
8pm leave camp to half mile west on TRT for best vantage point for fireworks.
930pm South Lake Tahoe fireworks
Bring headlamps to get to/from camp7/5
9am Morning hang out at lake, eat, and pack up
1pm at the latest head back to parking. Lots of down hill so plenty of breaks to go easy on knees. 7.5 miles to cars.
4pm at parking lot to drive to Reno
5pm back at summit park and ride*Please check comments the morning of event.
This is a difficult hike (note the elevation gain)Feel free to turn back if it is outside of your comfort zone. Note the end time is arbitrary as every Meet Up group moves at a different pace. I cannot guarantee when you will be finished. I will post in the comments about weather when we get closer.
Be prepared with your own food and water (bring more than you think, and a water filter), food prep materials, first aid, BYOB, sunblock, bug spray, tent, sleeping gear, hat, head lamp, and swim wear/water shoes/towel/dry change of clothes. A couple of us have a micro camp stove for heating water for dehydrated meals. We can heat water for you but you are responsible for the rest.
You must agree to keep your RSVP updated so that people from the waitlist can join, drink responsibly, drive responsibly, and LEAVE NO TRACE/ no litter, and utilize the bathroom facilities or be 200 feet from water sources per State Park regulations. Comment below if you are interested in carpooling. Summit Park and Ride in South Reno is a good spot.
Please be fully educated, experienced, and prepared for the amount of time you plan to stay, especially when camping. Test out gear/tent/food prep at home before coming.
