Hi All!
The group chose a new book yesterday, it sounds pretty interesting.
It is called The Rational Optimist by Matt Ridley.
From what I can glean it attempts to prove that - regardless how the world and our society may currently FEEL - the are very real, rational reasons to maintain optimism about our future. I like this concept because rationale and optimism tend to be at odds.
Even though this book leans more toward the Sociological or Anthropological in nature, I think it fits in well with many of our overarching discussions. I believe it is a fresh way to view our culture/society.
I have broken the book into 4 parts, for the next 4 meetups:
Before May 6th, read THROUGH Chapter 2, to the beginning of Chapter 3. (84 Pages)
Before May 20th, read THROUGH Chapter 5, to the beginning of Chapter 6. (106 Pages)
Before June 3rd, read THROUGH Chapter 8, to the beginning of Chapter 9. (87 Pages)
Before June 17th, read THROUGH TO THE END OF THE BOOK. (86 Pages)
Let me know if you need a copy of the book sent to your house, and let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Matt

-------
I read a LOT of books about Philosophy, Spirituality and Psychology, but absolutely NOBODY wants to discuss these topics with me. It's frustrating.
This group is my attempt to "find my tribe", so to speak. A group of individuals who share a common interest and look forward to meeting up to discuss some interesting ideas and concepts.
WE ARE CURRENTLY READING A BOOK, BUT WHEN WE FINISH we will all recommend and decide on a new book. The book you recommend can be one you have already read, or one you were hoping to read, or one you have read but did not understand and would like to discuss.
There are no rules to what type of book you recommend except that it falls under Philosophy, Spirituality or Psychology. If your book is not chosen as the first book, we will add it to the list to be read and discussed at a later date.
Feel free to message with questions or recommendations on how you think this should all go, this group will not be "driven" by me but by the collective group.
