What we’re about
If you want to get outdoors, enjoy nature, and destress — this is the group for you. Please join us for fellowship in the great outdoors!
We love hiking, kayaking/canoeing, camping/backpacking, walking/racing, bicycling, etc. We are only allowed to pick 15 tags, but if it has to do with the outdoors, there's probably someone in this group who'd like to join you.
… and, of course, there's often food involved 😜
We look forward to spending time with you!

St Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend: 5K 10K Half/Full Marathon
The Peabody Memphis, 149 Union Ave, Memphis, TN, USWhen you sign up with St. Jude for this, be sure to join our team: Outdoor Adventure Meetup.
General registration is now open:
https://www.stjude.org/get-involved/fitness-fundraisers/memphis-marathon.html
You have a choice again this year of running the race in person or virtual.
NOTE: some people have expressed concern that joining a fundraising team will eliminate their Hero status. I just want to assure you, that is not the case. You will still be a St. Jude Hero. You will still get individual credit for all the funds you raise, but those same funds will also count toward our team goal.
Go ahead and RSVP, if you are planning on doing the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Full Marathon.
Note: this is a very walker-friendly half marathon, so if you ever wanted to do a half marathon, but didn’t know if you could run the whole 13.1 miles, this is the race for you!
I look forward to racing with you all again this year, at the race that started my half marathon journey! This will be my 10th year doing St. Jude!
We all meet at the Peabody before the race, since it’s right there at the start line, and they graciously allow St. Jude runners to stay warm in their lobby before the race. It’s tradition for our group to get a group photo at the duck fountain in the lobby before the race.3 attendees
AMTRAK NOLA Trip 2025
Amtrak Memphis Station Upper Parking, 579-621 S Main St, Memphis, TN, USNOTE: This trip is not planned for Dec. 31. This just keeps the event open while we nail down a date.
We've been talking about this trip for about 2 years. Time to make it a reality. We are still in the planning stage, though, getting all the details, and your answers will help us set this up for the best experience for everyone, so please chime in, and please answer ALL the questions in the signup phase. I recommend that you read through the entire description BEFORE you RSVP, please.
In order to maximize our time while minimizing the amount of vacation days folks will have to take off work, I recommend that we:
- Leave Saturday morning (depart: 6:40a - arrive: 3:47p)
- Return Wednesday afternoon (depart: 1:45p - arrive: 10:20p)
This gives us 3 full days, and 2 partial days in New Orleans.
Best time of year: The short answer is that for most people, the best times to visit New Orleans weather wise are between March and May OR mid-October through November.
Suggested itinerary: https://www.bigboytravel.com/louisiana/neworleans/suggested-itineraries/#:~:text=Suggested%20Stay%3A%204%2D5%20full,itinerary%20on%20the%20main%20sights.
Please read the 4 day itinerary and let us know which things on there interest you. Also, feel free to let us know if there is something you'd like to do that is not on that list.
Tickets & Lodging:
Everyone will be responsible for their own AMTRAK ticket and lodging, but I'd like to recommend:
- AMTRAK coach: Price (roundtrip): $110 (2 bags free) flex (which allows you to cancel or change dates)
- Lodging: Airbnb (which is usually much cheaper per person than hotels, and would allow us to enjoy some relaxed time together in the evenings
More details to follow.
