Ogden Area Rock Climbers

All levels welcome! Let's head up the Ogden Canyon Routes to climb. More specifically the 5.8 Wall and Utah Wall. For those who are not yet leading, I will set up top ropes and do a small intro to lead & Trad for any beginners. I have a couple of ropes, but if others have a rope, that would be helpful. Be prepared for a nice 5-10 minute walk to the 5.8 wall and some uphill scrambling to get to the Utah Wall crag. Bring water, snacks, comfortable hiking shoes, etc. DIRECTIONS/HOW TO FIND US: Meet at the South end of Rainbow Gardens parking lot,near the trailhead. I drive a black Chevy Suburban. Due to the lack of parking it is best to carpool into the Ogden Canyon climbing area. If you need to drive your own vehicle, you can just follow me or look for my truck. WHAT TO BRING: - helmet - harness - belay device - water - snacks and lunch - medicines you may need - layers of clothes appropriate for the weather - approach shoes.

All levels welcome! Looking for some where I haven't been in a while and with some shade. I've updated this meeting due to all the new members who I haven't met yet. This will be an all day Meetup, so there's no firm time to join us.

The lower Ambush Wall is mostlly sport with 2 trad routes. Because of the shade, this can be a busy area, so be prepared to change locations.
DIRECTIONS/HOW TO FIND US: The Big Cottonwood Canyon Park & Ride parking lot. From here, the Ambush Wall up the canyon 5.7 miles. There is a pullout on the north side of the road. There is an orange sign with "7.8" in black at the pullout.

This will be our second trip to Red Rocks. I'll get straight to the details.

Rock: Red Rock is comprised of a 3000 foot thick escarpment of Aztec Sandstone. This rock is generally quite well-bonded, being more solid than that found in the other great sandstone areas of the west. Mountain Project lists well over two thousand climbs with 58% of them Trad climbing.

Weather: The first weekend of April for 2025 recorded temps were:

Friday- 66/57, Saturday- 72/70, Sunday- 75/73

Averages for April are 70-78/56-60 with a mean temp of 68

It is quite common to be comfortable in the parking lot and freezing on the route. The temperature in the canyons is usually ten degrees colder than town, having some kind of wind stopper is always a good idea.

I'm assuming that at least one camper van may show up and can use 1 of 3 parking in the driveway $50. Free parking on the street for everyone else.

Max number of guest is 10 people.
The hot tub can be heated for $60 a night. I'm going to get it heated for Saturday night. If anyone wants it heated for Friday or Sunday let me know so I can get it handled.
NOTE: The pool is not heated. But with the weather being unusually warm, I don't think It'll be a problem.

Food: I'm always good with grilling up burgers and such Saturday night if anyone wants to chip in. But for the most part it's every man/woman for themselves.
Other notes: Obviously the rooms have first come, first served. If you find someone to share a bedroom with, that's your business. There is one more couch for someone to crash on if necessary.
