Welcome to the AWS User Group Nuremberg!
Whether you're just starting your cloud journey or you're a seasoned AWS practitioner, you've found your tribe! Since September 2015, we've been bringing together cloud enthusiasts, developers, and IT professionals all around the Nuremberg area who are passionate about AWS and cloud computing .
Every second Monday of the month we meet for engaging evenings featuring expert speakers who dive deep into AWS services, cloud architecture, best practices, and everything in between. From the latest AWS features to real-world implementation stories, our topics span the full spectrum of the cloud. And, tere's always something new to discover.
Each meetup includes plenty of time to network over food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere where questions are encouraged, ideas flow freely, and everyone—from curious beginners to AWS experts—has something valuable to contribute.

Designing Sovereignty on AWS: From KMS to European Sovereign Cloud
In this talk, we use our fictional startup Unicorn Rentals to walk through a practical sovereignty journey on AWS. We start with the basics of AWS Key Management Service (KMS) and progress through increasingly strict control models, including customer-managed keys, Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), and dedicated cryptographic boundaries. From there, we explore what AWS Sovereign-by-Design means in practice and how the AWS European Sovereign Cloud extends those guarantees with additional control, residency, and isolation properties. You’ll learn: How AWS KMS works and which options you have for key storage and cryptographic operations When and why to move to HSM-based approaches How regions, partitions, and the European Sovereign Cloud fit into a sovereignty strategy You’ll leave with concrete patterns you can apply to design for sovereignty instead of bolting it on later.The speaker⤵️
Oliver Steenbuck | LinkedIn
Oliver Steenbuck is a Solutions Architect at Amazon Webservices. He has more than 20 years of experience as software engineer and tech lead working at companies of various sizes ranging from startups to enterprise companies like Lufthansa.
Currently he works with Financial Services and Insurance customers of AWS supporting their digital transformation. He loves to enable teams to work with more autonomy and freedom on the cloud.
