What we’re about
- "those who die with the most friends.... WIN!
- This group is NOT about finding a significant other, it's about finding others who are significant.
- Quick Note: This MeetUp group is part of a larger NextDoor group with 500 members. So if 5 people are shown to be attending, it could be 35!
- Here's the deal. This group is about meeting new friends and people to hang out with. We have two types of events, special events and weekly events. Every week, we go to the Port Restaurant and Bar in Corona del Mar. If you come regularly, you will know half the people in the bar, and you will be greeted. The bar tender will know your order. Yes, it is kind of like "Cheers." Unfortunately, many folks DON'T LIKE consistency, things that are the same every week. But it is this consistency where you meet the same people, and can REALLY MAKE FRIENDS. So please come to the Port Restuarant and hang out with us.
- Back to our regular scheduled information....
- Here's the deal: you are retired, or near retirement. You know what would make your life better? How about some new FRIENDS! No wait: how about some new BEST FRIENDS?
- Come to our get togethers! The first time will be hardest of course, but you'll meet some people (who are like you!) and the NEXT time, you'll know them a little. By the TENTH happy hour, you'll have new friends. I promise! This group has actually created a bunch of new, BEST FRIENDS, all based on our happy hours! But you have to come, and come back! It's a WONDER!
- I offer a money back guarantee! Even though being a part of this group is FREE!
- This group is about meeting people to HANG OUT WITH. We want to meet folks and make friends. And drink responsibly.
- This Meet Up Group is an add-on to a NextDoor 50+ Group of Newport Beach.
- The 50+ Group of the Greater Newport Beach area was created to help folks expand their social network: to meet new people, to make new friends
- Age range is from the 50's and up with no limit. We have some cool 90 year old members!
- This is about FRIENDSHIP and meeting new people.
- Meet people to walk with, to hang out with!
- Come expand your social network!
- Plus it's FREE! HOWEVER, BECAUSE WE ARE A CHALLENGE TO THE RESTAURANT AND THE WORKERS, PLEASE TIP YOUR SERVER GENEROUSLY REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU GET! WE WANT TO BE WELCOME TO THESE VENUES!
- As leader of the group, I've met dozens of wonderful people, and folks tell me that these Happy Hours have changed their lives for the better!

See all- Karaoke Night at THE PORT RESTAURANT Corona del MarPort Restaurant and Bar, Corona Del Mar, CA
HEY: WE TYPICALLY GET 8-14 FOLKS FOR THIS EVENT, BUT NOBODY SIGNS UP SO IT LOOKS LIKE NOBODY IS GOING! BUT FOLKS DO! SO COME JOIN US! How fun is this group? Check this bad video from a recent event... The singer is a local professional, the back-up singers are from our group.... https://youtu.be/5_gp1HTeQX0
Karaoke nights are really fun. You don't have to sing, but the singers give you something to talk about at your table: you can reminisce about old songs and so on. This is a great way to meet people in our group, and those attending are typically youthful and spirited! I mean look at the accompanying picture! In addition, parking is easy, no cover charge (though you should tip the DJ) and the Port Restaurant is unique as well. Come join us!
THE PORT RESTAURANT IS LOW KEY, FOOD IS EXCELLENT, KARAOKE IS FUN TO LISTEN TO, ESPECIALLY WHEN MOLLY SHOWS UP! AND ANGIE AND PAT AND MADELYN (SHE MAKES ME SWOON) AND BRUCE AND NOELLE (A PHENOMENON!) - PHILOSOPHY DISCUSSION GROUP FOR 50+ FOLKSOASIS Senior Citizen Center, Corona Del Mar, CA
WHAT: Philosophy Discussion Group Meets
WHEN: Tuesday June 24th 3 to 4:30 PM
WHERE: ROOM 1 OASIS SENIOR CENTER
TOPIC: THE GOLDEN RULE
Last time we were talking about Confucius, and his golden rule.
For this discussion, we will discuss the golden rule, which religions/philosophies mention the golden rule, different versions of the golden rule.
Then we will ask: do we actually follow the golden rule? When? When DON'T we follow the golden rule? Who follows the golden rule? What rules do we REALLY follow in our lives?
And and and (sorry, I'm getting excited) then we will discuss alternative concepts: the Platinum rule, the Utilitarian golden rule, Kant's Categorical Imperative and Rawls' wonderful "Veil of Ignorance."
This will be a fun session!AFTERWARDS WE GO TO HAPPY HOUR AT EL CHOLO!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8GDEaJtbq4 2minTHEN WE GO TO HAPPY HOUR AT EL CHOLO and pretend to discuss things but mostly eat tacos.
Even though few MeetUp people sign up, we typcally get 20-30 people in the discussion group. Here's the scoop. When you are over 50 years old, lots of weird and strange things happen and it's a great time to think about WHAT IT ALL MEANS.
In this discussion group, we will discuss a variety of philosophy topics, and try to understand how they affect our lives.
This will be low key: lots of talking, not much lecturing, and the concepts will be made easy. It will be FUN! I promise or your money back! Except it's free anyway!
We'll talk about cool things like Plato's allegory of the cave, the Myth of Sisyphus, and ALL SORTS of topics. Ovens will be available so we can BAKE OUR OWN PHILOSOPHY! I mean, conceptually.

DOCENT TOUR CONFIRMATION
SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS
TOUR DATE & TIME: Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM
GUESTS: up to 20 guests in total
We are excited to welcome you to Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a Docent-led tour of our performance halls. In addition to learning more about the history of Segerstrom Center, you will get to see unique architectural details, explore available areas within our venues, and have the opportunity to take photos along the way. We ask that your group meet the volunteer Docents outside on the Argyros Plaza. For your convenience, here is amap of our campus indicating where your tour will begin.
Below is some helpful information about what you can expect on your upcoming tour. If there is anything I can clarify at this time, please let me know!
TIPS AND REMINDERS FOR YOUR UPCOMING TOUR:
Where do I check-in for the tour?
Please gather your party outside on the Argyros Plaza (off Town Center Drive) about 5-8 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Please click here to view a map of our campus. The volunteer Docents will greet you outside at your scheduled tour time.
How long is the tour? The tour of both halls is roughly 90-minutes long. We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toed walking shoes.
Is the tour accessible to visitors with disabilities or who use mobility devices?
Absolutely. Wheelchairs and other mobility-assisted devices are not provided. We would appreciate advanced notice if guests require accessible accommodations so we can appropriately plan the tour route with those needs in mind. Are there bathrooms on the tour?
There are bathrooms on the tour. How many bathrooms?
Gee, I don't know a few.I hope the bathrooms are dramatic and tiled with stones from around the world!
Golly, we'll find out!Do you ever buy something at a store, and then get home and can't find it?
Well, I guess.Do you allow photography during the tours?
Yes, we love it when patrons take pictures of our beautiful spaces. Photography is permitted with the use of hand-held still and video cameras only, no tripods. When a show is in the house, there will be areas where no photography is allowed due to copyright laws - your Docent will advise you when/where photography is not permitted at certain points along the tour. We would love to see your photos! Share your experiences with us on social media**@segerstromarts** or feel free to email us photos directly at tours@scfta.org.Where can I park my cars/personal vehicle?
There are several self-parking garages adjacent to Segerstrom Center. The closest parking structure for visitors is located at the Center Tower Parking Structure, adjacent to Segerstrom Hall on Sunflower Avenue between Avenue of the Arts and Park Center Drive. Please note that the Center neither owns nor operates any of these parking garages, and rates are subject to change. We do not provide or offer parking validation for the free tour program. Why is the tour schedule always subject to change, even when tours are booked in advance?
The priority of our halls are performances and rehearsals, which can be added to the schedule at any time. As a leading performing arts venue, we continually have new shows arriving with their own rehearsal schedule requirements. The scheduling of tours is sensitive to the timing needs of front of house staff, operations, performers and many more that need the space to prepare for that evening’s performance or event. You will be notified immediately if a performance or rehearsal conflicts with your scheduled tour.
