Posting this hike with tons of heads-up as many like to do San G as final prep for bigger mountains over the summer like Mt. Whitney and other 14K peaks in the Sierras.
Scheduling this for end of May so should be no snow on the mountain but not high summer temps either. We'll watch weather the week prior and adjust as needed.
This is a long 19-mile out-and-back trail with gain of 4,704 feet from South Fork trailhead. For those who have done San G via Vivian Creek, this way is less steep on average but longer.
This is not an easy day hike and there is higher elevation involved so if you're not sure you can do this hike, please do some of the other shorter hikes with Mountain Monkey so you can get a sense of where your fitness and altitude acclimation are at. If you are worried about being able to complete the day, please bring a friend of equivalent fitness with you so that you can stop and turn back safely as a team whenever you might need to. That said we'll do our best to make sure that we stay in groups that match hiker abilities in case some group decides to make their summit part way up the mountain and other group/s go for the peak. The only mandatory goal all teams have to achieve is making it back to the start point safely.
We can see as we get close to the date what the water availability is on route but be prepared to take all the water you need for the day if the route is dry.
I have a permit for 12 so let me know if you would like to bring guest(s) and we can get another permit if more are interested. As we may separate in multiple teams during the hike, I will bring copies of permit. Be prepared to know route regardless of group.

The trailhead is located on Jenks Lake Road, 2.5 miles from Highway 38. From the large paved parking area, the trail starts on the opposite side of the road across from the vault toilet. An Adventure Pass or Interagency Pass is required to park at the trailhead. Adventure Passes are available for purchase at Mountain Monkey if you need one.
Feel free to post any questions you may have and we look forward to seeing you on the trail.
