Learn Nalbinding
Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2000 Fairground Road, Monterey, CA, USNote: The date is tentative and may change. We'll update this event as needed.
Nalbinding is an ancient, single-needle textile technique for creating fabric from a single strand of yarn. Unlike knitting or crochet, it does not use continuous yarn, and the fabric doesn't unravel. The technique involves a series of interlocking loops and can be used to make a variety of items, such as hats, socks, and mittens.
Stephanie will be teaching the basics of nalbinding at this workshop, including how to start a foundation chain and how to do the Oslo stitch.
You can participate for free! Bring your own supplies:
A yarn needle
- Material doesn't matter as long as bulky yarn fits through the eye
- Most plastic yarn needles will work perfectly fine
Yarn
- Best: single-ply bulky weight 100% wool, non-superwash
- Better: any bulky weight non-superwash wool blend with at least 50% wool
- Good: any bulky weight yarn, any fiber content
- Will work in a pinch: any worsted weight yarn, any fiber content
Stephanie will have supplies available to borrow if needed, as well as to purchase. Starter kits will be available for pre-order and at the event - link coming soon!
The workshop officially ends at 12, but you're welcome to bring a lunch and hang out until 2!
This event is co-hosted by the Carmel Crafts Guild and Anne's Web, a local fiber spinning guild. There will be a short CCG member meeting starting at 10, then Stephanie's nalbinding workshop.2 attendees
