What we’re about
This Meetup group is for people from the Stuttgart region (and beyond) who enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities as welll as social, cultural and educational activities. We meet about three to four times a month.
We are the "Metropolitan Club Stuttgart e.V". an international club, which roots go back to 1951, with a tradition of German-American friendship open for participants of all nations.
Come and enjoy hiking from Schwäbisch Hall Hessenthal to the old town.
The route passes Grosscomburg Castle, a former Benedictine monastery founded in 1078. This vast castellated structure is majestically rising on a hill.
We can also enjoy exclusive free access to the Würth Museum, home to an impressive collection of contemporary art. German American InstitutPop stars like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Janelle Monáe are getting involved in politics and inspiring millions. But can they also decide elections? In this multimedia lecture, cultural journalist Vanessa Schneider explores how mainstream pop became political, the role musicians play in election campaigns, and the limits of their activism. She explores protest anthems, social media campaigns, and the question of whether their engagement is motivated by conviction or also serves economic interests.
Vanessa Schneider is a multimedia journalist and presenter for public broadcasting. After completing her bachelor's degree in American Studies and History and her master's degree in Popular Music and Media at the University of Paderborn, she completed a journalistic internship at the Electronic Media School in Babelsberg. Her main interests are US cultural history and pop culture, as well as storytelling podcasts. She is currently an editor in the BR StoryTeam for the podcast Wild Wild Web.

Lecture and Q&A Location: To be announced

Since taking office, Donald Trump has deliberately used tariffs as a means of economic and political pressure – sometimes against China, Canada, and the EU. But what are the goals of this strategy? Is it truly about protecting American jobs, or are geopolitical interests at the forefront? The first consequences of this trade policy are already noticeable: increasing trade conflicts, a weakening labor market, and declining consumer sentiment in the US. What can we expect now? What further impact will this development have on the US economy, German companies, and transatlantic trade?
