What we’re about
The City of Menlo Park's libraries offer a variety of programs, including art events, author talks, info sessions, craft sessions, music events, and more. To make the most of our programming efforts and this meetup page, we’d love for you to get involved. If you come to a program, say hi and let us know you saw it on meetup. If you have an idea for something you’d like to see at the library, send us a message. The library is a great space for community meetups and we’d love to play a role in making those connections!
See more events at our calendar, and check our hours and holiday closures.

See all- Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Group: Equal Rites, by Terry PratchettLink visible for attendees
Join us online to discuss Equal Rites, Terry Pratchett’s hilarious tale of the first female wizard.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it’s not half so bad as a lot of ignorance.
Everyone knows there’s no such thing as a female wizard. So when a dying wizard accidentally passes on his staff of power to an eighth daughter of an eighth son, the exclusively masculine world of wizarding is thrown into a tailspin.
Eskarina isn’t afraid of male critics—and she isn’t going to relinquish this unexpected gift.

@menlolibrary on Twitter - Songwriters in-the-round for Mental HealthBelle Haven Library, Belle Haven Community Campus, Menlo Park, CA
In honor of Mental Health Month, enjoy a songwriter-in-the-round style performance from three local performers!
Singer-songwriters Kimberlye Gold, Mardi Morillo, and Gaby Castro will join us to share their talents. Enjoy some beautiful music and personal tales of inspiration and healing.
The artists:
Kimberlye Gold spent many years honing her skills living and working in the trenches of LA/NYC/Nashville, working with hitmakers from all those major music towns before returning to her roots. Her love for multiple genres of music spanning decades is on full display in her combo platter of pop/rock/R&B/country original and cover tunes.
Gaby Castro is a folk/Americana singer-songwriter born and raised in the heart of Silicon Valley. Her voice is described as soft and sweet, her lyrics contemplative and powerful, reminiscent of songwriters such as Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, and Taylor Swift. She's gained a loyal following from her songs about life, love, and mental health.
Mardi Morillo writes and covers memorable and emotional songs of love, loss, and hope. After losing partial vision, Mardi quit his job as a CIO and found his purpose writing songs and sharing his beautiful guitar playing and vocals. Influenced by John Mayer and Coldplay, Mardi’s albums include Love Stories and A Long Way to Go.

@menlolibrary on Twitter/X - Melanated Women Read: Parable of the Sower, by Octavia E. ButlerLink visible for attendees
Melanated Women Read is a book discussion group by and especially for Black women. This month we discuss Parable of the Sower, by Octavia E. Butler.
The New York Times wrote that Butler’s highly-acclaimed tale of hope and terror “pairs well with 1984 or The Handmaid’s Tale.”
When global climate change and economic crises lead to social chaos in the early 2020s, California becomes full of dangers, from pervasive water shortage to masses of vagabonds who will do anything to live to see another day.
Fifteen-year-old Lauren Olamina lives inside a gated community with her preacher father, family and neighbors, sheltered from the surrounding anarchy. In a society where any vulnerability is a risk, she suffers from hyper-empathy, a debilitating sensitivity to others’ emotions.
About Melanated Women Read:
Melanated Women Read is a virtual book group that is by and especially for Black women. The purpose and focus are on inspiring, uplifting reads, and providing a safe space for Black women to speak, vent and enjoy honest and open conversation.
The group chooses from books written by Black authors. The goal of this community-based group is to introduce a variety of Black writers who will help build a love of reading in a positive environment while meeting new people and gaining new perspectives.
Melanated Women Read meets virtually on the first Monday of each month.
