**This is an outdoor event so weather can affect our Meetup. We do not play in rain, temps below 40F, or other adverse weather conditions. Keep on eye on the weather and check group updates to stay informed. **
Ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge? Come show us what you got with Asheville’s weekly pick-up dodgeball group!
We're hosting open play on Thursday night at Asheville Sports Club. We are all about having a great time and getting that adrenaline pumping! Friendly competition is always welcome but fun, safety, and respect for all players are the top priorities. We use squishy rubber dodgeballs that are fun to throw and catch but can sting with enough velocity so no headshots are allowed. Throws should aim at your target’s shoulders or lower.
No experience is necessary - we'll teach you the rules. Open to adults 21 and up (bring your ID!). We’re sorry but we cannot accommodate teens or children because there is alcohol on the premises and no one wants to be the person who accidentally hurts a kid. Sign waivers at the bar before playing and enjoy a beverage between games.
Rules of the game are covered at the start of the event so please be there at 7pm to learn our format. We loosely follow the USA Dodgeball ruleset with some exceptions to help new players adapt to the game more quickly. Check out our brief rules and expectations summary attached as photos to this Meetup.
Here’s a rough schedule for this event depending on when people arrive:
6:50 - 7:10pm* - Set up courts and mingle
7:10 - 7:15pm - Rules and announcements
7:15 - 9:30pm - Play!
*If we have enough people once setup is done, we’ll jump into rules and announcements early. We need at least 8 players to start a game, so take advantage of the daylight and try to arrive right at the beginning!
Since this is a free event, the more community support we can gather, the better experience everyone will have, especially for the organizers! If you'd like to help, please arrive early or stay late to assist with set up and breakdown.
This is a free community offering, however, if you are feeling generous, donations are welcomed to help support and expand our group. We take donations through Pledge here in Meetup or Venmo (dodgeballavl). Cash of course is fine too. Your donations genuinely help the group by helping with equipment purchases and raising funds to eventually add another night of dodgeball in an indoor gym.
