The London Solopreneur Circle: First Gathering

**This is the first meetup of The London Solopreneur Circle, a small peer group for people actively building independent businesses outside the traditional corporate path.** The aim is to create a thoughtful peer space for people building independent businesses to share what they are working on, what feels hard, what is moving forward, and how we can support each other. The goal is simple: Honest conversation, accountability, useful ideas, partnerships, friendship and momentum. This is a no-pitch environment. If your main goal is to sell to the room, this is not the right group. Each session will usually follow a simple format: 1\. What are you building right now? 2\. What moved forward since last time? 3\. What feels hard\, confusing or stuck? 4\. Useful opportunities\, intros\, tools or resources 5\. One concrete action each person commits to before next time Nothing formal is needed. Write-in at the Mitre: work on your own material in convivial company

**We will be at The Mitre pub in central Greenwich.** This meetup is free and casual. We just sit around for a few hours and write together. Bring a laptop, or use a pen and paper or clay tablet and stylus if that's what works for you. The structure of the session is roughly: 2pm: chat 2:20–3:25: writing time 3:25: chat/coffee break 3:40–4:45 writing time 4:45: chat But our Saturdays are very casual, so feel free to drop in and out. **This is usually in the meeting room at the Mitre. If you arrive a bit later, you may need to ask the bar staff to show you through to the room.**

This is a live session at The Mitre in Greenwich. Please note that, as a one off, the administration of this session will be done by "Liv Johannesson" [Johannesson.liv@gmail.com](mailto:Johannesson.liv@gmail.com) and the session will be hosted by "Katie Lumsden" [katie.lumsden@googlemail.com](mailto:katie.lumsden@googlemail.com). If you sign up for this session please e-mail Liv and confirm it so that she can send you the extracts. If you have any last minute issues or queries on the day, please e-mail Katie. All four extracts slots have been booked for this session so please do not contact Liv asking for one. The purpose of this meeting is to provide and receive critique on submitted extracts of members' creative writing, whether they're working on a novel, screenplay, poetry, a memoir or short story, etc. We share our extracts via email ahead of the meeting to give us all a chance to read the work in our own time and reflect upon it so as to be able to provide useful critique. If you are new to the group we ask that you participate in at least two of the Wednesday critiquing sessions before you submit work for review so that you get to know us and have a good understanding of how we operate. This will help you to get the most from a critique of your own work. Extracts should be approx 3,000 words and the full document (extract plus blurbs, questions etc) should not exceed 3,500 words in total. Extracts must be mailed to Liv ([Johannesson.liv@gmail.com](mailto:Johannesson.liv@gmail.com)) at the latest by 9pm on the Saturday before the session so that she can share your work with the rest of the group. We have a limit of 4 extracts per session to give adequate time to review work properly. Feel free to give guidance on any specific areas on which you would like feedback. E.g. Plot, pacing, structure or character development etc. (If you have not received the extracts by the Sunday before the session, mail Liv.) The group is friendly and relaxed, so please don't feel nervous about sharing your work! We will normally review extracts according to the order in which they are submitted but if you need a particular slot let the host know when you submit your extract and we will try to accommodate that. Please note that all phones MUST be switched to silent mode for the duration of the meeting.
