What we’re about

πŸ‘‹ We started with a handful of players back in 2010 and now we host 20 events every week from Pasadena all the way to Venice! Yep, we've introduced hundreds of new players to the incredibly fun and social sport of tennis, where you can get a workout, learn a past-time you can play into your 80s and also make friends for life. (Watch our video!)

Even better, 80% of our events are FREE and enable you to meet local players at your level who love tennis just as much as you do. Because we're so affordable and we host SO many events, we charge a super-low New Member fee of $10, which is good for 1 year. To be approved, click the Request to Join button and answer the Meetup group questions. Then, visit our official website losangelestennisgroup.com/ and use a credit or debit card to join. So you can start playing in our events right away!

Just starting to play? Recently moved here? Or been playing on USTA teams but want to meet fresh, new competitors? We offer events for all levels of players and we encourage our members to have fun and improve their games with Positive People.

Important tips for BEGINNERS: To join, we do require that you take at least 5 Beginner lessons and know the proper form for forehands, backhands and how to hit. We are NOT coaches and we don't teach (or try to sell you) classes. If you'd like to find a class or coach, we recommend you check out this list of public tennis courts (below) and visit those closest to you. Many of these offer affordable group lessons for Beginners to learn the basics. Just look for the promotional banners or a pro shop, or ask the tennis court attendant: "Can I take lessons at this park?"
WHERE TO FIND COURTS: Here's a link to a list of public free and pay courts around the city of L.A., their hours, and how to reach them: http://www.laparks.org/sports/tennis/pay
Once you start learning, then you can come play with us. πŸ˜€πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘

Everyone else: Our members play in Beverly Hills, the Valley, Downtown, Burbank, Glendale, Hollywood, the West Side, South Bay and beyond! We host year-round Round Robins, rallying sessions, giveaways, after-tennis outings and sometimes even karaoke. All you need is a photo of your awesome self and a No-Flake attitude to join. To get started playing in the LATG, here's how to join and rate yourself in our profile questionnaire...

When filling out your profile use the description below to list your skills level.
Skill Levels:
1.5 | BEGINNER
You have limited experience and are working primarily on getting the ball in play.
2.0Β | BEGINNER
You lack court experience and your strokes need developing but you're getting more comfortable on court. You can sustain rallies with other beginners but may lack control and hit balls out. You may not know how to serve or volley yet, but you're learning the basic positions for singles and doubles play.
2.5 | ADVANCED BEGINNER
You are learning to judge where the ball is going, although your court coverage is limited. You now know the court positions and can keep score and are working on serving consistently and rallying with other players of same ability.
3.0 | INTERMEDIATE
Your serve consistently goes in now, but you may not have much power or variety. You're fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but you're not comfortable with all strokes, like lobs and overheads, and you may lack accuracy when trying for directional control, depth, pace or altering distance of shots. Most common doubles formation is one up, one back.
3.5 | HIGH INTERMEDIATE
You've achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lack depth and variety. You're more comfortable at the net, have improved court awareness, and are developing teamwork in doubles. You're also starting to exhibit more aggressive net play. You probably played on a high school tennis team and have been working on your game seriously for 2 - 3 years.
4.0 | INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED
You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. You most likely have played on a high school varsity team and devoted 5 years to seriously developing your tennis skills.
4.5 | ADVANCED
You're starting to master the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace. You have sound footwork, can control depth of shots and are beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Most 4.5s have played serious college-level competitive tennis.
5.0
You have good shot anticipation and frequently have an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. You can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away volleys. You can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, overhead smashes, and have good depth and spin on most second serves.
5.5
You have mastered power and/or consistency as a major weapon. You can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hit dependable shots in a stress situation.
6.0 to 7.0
You have had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and have obtained a sectional and/or national ranking.
7.0 PROFESSIONAL
You are Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams.
May the ball calls be ever in your favor ...
