Come learn the basics of propagation by seed with Josh! We will discuss tips for successfully sowing various species by seed, in addition to having over 75 species of locally native plants for sale.

LEAF Benefit in Concert: A Backyard Fundraiser

Step into the heart of Niles for LEAF’s annual backyard music concert: a laid-back celebration where community, creativity, and good tunes come together in support of regenerative gardening, environmental education, and local food donation programs.

Hosted by LEAF Founder, Vice President, and local musician Bruce Cates, the concert features performances from seven local bands, seedling & honey sales, all set against a hand-built outdoor backyard stage. Think couches under the trees, string lights overhead, and just good vibez overall.

What to expect:

• Live music from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m.
• A bring-your-own (BYO) community potluck + drinks
• LEAF-grown seedlings and honey for sale

All are welcome and free to attend. Donations to support LEAF’s mission are warmly appreciated.

If you’re able, bring a dish and your favorite drink to share for the community potluck. But if not, no worries—just come as you are. There’s always room at the table.

Composting is the natural process of recycling organic matter, such as leaves and food scraps, into a valuable fertilizer that can enrich soil and plants. Composting is the key to growing healthy plants.

Join Alan, our local expert on composting. He will teach you about outdoor composting, what will work best for your space, the types of waste you can use and how compost reduces your need for pesticides and fertilizers.

Join us as we focus on controlling gophers in the garden. They are very destructive and difficult to control.

Join Master Gardener Guy as he demonstrates the various traps used for catching gophers and explains the pros and cons of each method. Although our main focus will be gophers, other questions about other pest in the garden will be welcomed as time permits.
