LAFF: Lesbian Adventures 45+, NJ/NY

Join us on an Architectural Walking Tour in Manhattan, focusing on Women’s History, and led by an architect.
This walk will be followed by social gathering at a local cafe!

During the walk, the tour leader will talk about specific women who lived along East 90th street on the Upper East Side at the turn of the century (1890s), and the buildings that they lived in.
The walk will be a 1.1 miles downhill stroll from 5th Avenue, along 90th Street, to Carl Schurz Park (by the river).
Duration: about 90 minutes - starting and ending near various bus and subway lines.
What to Bring: sunscreen, and an interest in history.
Starting Location: We will start at the southwest corner of 5th Avenue and 90th Street. There is a curved stone bench at this location that is part of Engineers Gate entrance to Central Park. This meeting location is just across the street from The Church of the Heavenly Rest.
Change in elevation: 50 feet
Punctuality: We will wait till 2:10pm and then start walking.

The Pride Choir of Montclair will celebrate Pride with songs of “hope, struggle, reflection, and joy.” Expect the music of Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac and many others, all backed by a nine piece band.

Doors open at 6pm with entertaining cabaret and the concert starts at 7pm (one hour fifteen minutes). Afterwards, depending on the mood of the group, we’ll walk a few blocks to Hunan Taste Chinese Restaurant or Mantarello Bakery Cafe to continue the celebration.

The Lavender Festival is three nights of women and queer standup comedians at various locations. We’ll attend the Wednesday early show in Brooklyn at Starr Bar, but first we’ll have dinner at Ayat Bushwick, a Palestinian Restaurant around the corner. After the show, for those who aren’t ready to end the night, we’ll go up the block to a lesbian bar called, what else, The Bush.

Spend a long weekend hiking in the mountains and relaxing at a secluded lake front home in the Southern Catskill Mountains and take in Brandi Carlile’s concert.

The Home

It’s the only house on a seven acre lake. It has five bedrooms, three full baths, dining room, living room, fully equiped kitchen, game area with a ping pong table and pool table, deck with BBQ grill, grounds with a fire pit, and two rowboats to take out on the lake.

The Hikes

Friday: there’ll be an easy hike on the way up to the house: to be decided.

Saturday: Slide Mountain 6.5 miles/1800 ft. This is the tallest mountain in the Catskills and one of the most popular hikes so we’ll get there early. It’s rocky and steep with breathtaking views.

Sunday and Monday: we’ll see how women are feeling. Options are Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain 6.7 miles/2030 ft, Gertrude’s Nose 7 miles/1100 ft, Ice Caves and Verderkeer Falls 7 miles/1050 ft. We may do an easier hike Sunday since we’ll need to get to the concert in the evening.

Brandi Carlile - The Human Tour

A sister lesbian nominated for eleven grammy’s.
We have tickets for the general admission lawn seating. We can bring blankets or rent lawn chairs for $10 each. The concert starts at 7pm but we’ll get there earlier and picnic. Anyone who prefers to buy their own regular seat should probably do so soon before they sell out.
