About us
Kinship Cafe is a Daoist center for life and wellbeing—a place to explore the wisdom of the Daodejing (Tao Te Ching), connect with others, and consider what these ancient insights might mean for our lives today.
Our approach is naturalistic. We don't ask you to adopt supernatural beliefs or accept a particular doctrine. Instead, we approach the Daodejing with curiosity—exploring its history, culture, language, and philosophy and then bringing those ideas into conversation with our own experience and our modern understanding of the natural world.
At the heart of Kinship Cafe is the Way of Kinship: the recognition that we are not separate, self-contained individuals, but participants in an interconnected, interdependent, and continually changing world.
Our gatherings are conversational rather than lectures or religious services. We typically begin with a passage from the Daodejing, explore what it may have meant in its original context, and then open the conversation: What might this way of seeing things mean for us today? How might it affect the way we understand ourselves, relate to others, and respond to the circumstances of our lives?
You don't need any previous knowledge of Daoism or the Daodejing. There is nothing you need to believe, and you don't need to consider yourself a Daoist. Curiosity is enough.
Whether you're interested in Daoist philosophy, naturalistic spirituality, living more simply, understanding yourself more clearly, or simply having thoughtful conversations with others, you're welcome at Kinship Cafe.
Come as you are. Explore with us.
