About us
Our motto is : "We don't talk quietly, hike slowly, go to bed early or have just one drink"
This is a group for anyone that loves to adventure outdoors and wants to do it with other people, even if they are complete strangers. If you are between 21 and 60 and like to hike, camp, raft, ski, board, travel and other activities this is the group for you!
BUT we are not for everyone....not everyone likes our motto or the energy behind that motto, and that's ok
If you're only looking for happy hours, this isn't the group for you. This is NOT a singles group. We plan happy hours now and then to get the members of the group together in social settings to discuss future adventures - some good plans can be made over a beer or two! And all good adventures end with a drink!
It's better with someone else...
It's better with beer/drinks...
It's Better Outdoors...
Come join us!
Note: this is NOT a beginners group and events are typically geared towards those with some experience, usually at an intermediate or advanced level depending on the event - ie: we don't hike slow and don't do short hikes
But exceptions are made and occasionally we'll do something easy or for beginners but those events would be noted as such
Please make sure to read the Waiver (General Release of Liability). By joining the group you accept the policy decribed here:

Joining the group also means you're ok with being photographed during adventures - we always take pics: for the memories and for promotion of future events (we can't always accommodate a 'no photo' request)
This is a real meetup group, this is NOT a business nor am I promoting a business and I do not promote businesses. If you see an event posted that means that I will be there to meet you, greet you, do the activity with you and have a drink with you during or afterwards. We are also not a networking group and do not tolerate solicitation of members.
We welcome anyone in their 20s - 50s of any gender, race or nationality. But please email the event organizer first if you want to bring a dog...sometimes they are ok and sometimes not.

payments:
Venmo: @Gary-Kiefer
make sure the "turn off for purchases" is set to OFF
Paypal: gwk122@yahoo.com
make sure to select 'SEND TO FRIENDS/FAMILY' (not 'for goods/services')
Rules: not many...no Shanghaiing people (no pulling people off boats), and no bucket stealing (I know, it sounds fun, but often leads to injury and fighting)
The fun stuff:
We've done this trip 18 years running now and we've had all kinds of people at all kinds of skill levels come out. This trip is fun for those that have never rafted before as it's fairly easy (we don't even have guides in each boat, they kayak along with us, since it's not very dangerous) but it's still fun for those that have been rafting because it's a chance to run your own boat and of course THERE ARE WATER BATTLES!!!
yes, there'll be LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of splashing. If you don't like to get splashed, don't come. seriously. you'll ruin the fun for the rest of us if you complain. (this has happened in the past and we're not dealing with it.) We're on the river...its water...its wet...you'll get wet. it happens. SMILE when it does!
Lunch is NOT provided-Bring your own Lunch! Keep lunch simple: sandwich, snack, bottle of something to drink (keep in mind that soda my get shaken up on the trip.) And keep it small, there's not a lot of room in the buckets we use to hold the lunches.
Bring: sunscreen, bottled water, water guns, waterproof cameras, water shoes or old sneakers (yes, you need to have something that ties to your feet, no flip flops), a towel and change of clothes for afterwards (they do have showers at the base camp). (towels do not go in the boat with us)
After rafting: Many of us will be camping and have food/drinks at our campsites, those not camping with us are invited to come back to the campsites with us to have some drinks and play some games - please BYO drinks/food though, unless you talk to someone beforehand that may share with you (don't come to the campsites expecting to be fed)
Carpooling is encouraged - feel free to post comments looking for or offering rides - when it gets closer I'll put a google sheet out there to help plan carpools
PLEASE NOTE: If YOU are not there on time, WE do not raft on time, and everyone waits - 100 don't wait for 1, we will leave without you and you may end up rafting with random people not in our group at a later time. Yes, if you're there much earlier than 9:00, you'll have time to kill waiting around - sorry about that, it's just the way it is and the way WWC does things. It's an early start but it helps avoid traffic coming from Philly and it gets us off the river early so we can enjoy the afternoon.
You can camp with us Friday, RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/its-better-outdoors/events/314856297/
You can camp with us Saturday, RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/its-better-outdoors/events/314856314/
Paid status will be updated in the RSVP list next to your name
REFUNDS: 100% refundable for any reason until July 24, after that, you can only get a refund if someone takes your spot. NO REFUNDS AT ALL on Fri Aug 7 or Sat Aug 8. I'm sorry if your car breaks down, you wake up too hungover to raft or your grandmother dies on Saturday morning but you're still not getting a refund. I can't get a refund at that point so you can't get a refund.
As this gets closer we'll be sending some detailed emails to coordinate meeting up at the basecamp. It's important you're getting emails from ITS BETTER OUTDOORS about specific events you're signed up for.
