Hiking Mates of the Capital Region

We will hike a 4-5 mile loop along the Fred Schroeder and Long Path trails from the Carrick Rd trailhead at the north end of the park. We will stop at both hang glider and high point lookouts to check out the panaramic views. Plan to be out in the woods 2-3 hours. There are a few short hills and areas of uneven terrain but overall not a lot of elevation change. Although this is a beginner hike you should be doing regular aerobic exercise to participate. Dress for the weather and wear hiking boots.

**Meet at Bennett Hill trailhead. Hike starts 5, maybe 5:15 PM
We will hike a two mile loop along the green, red, and yellow trails of the preserve, which overlooks Clarksville. We will start at an elevation of 740' and climb to 1140'. Views along the way include the surrounding countryside, the Helderbergs, and a narrow outlook at the top of the hill toward the city of Albany. Although this will be a relatively short hike of approx. 2hrs, it includes a fairly steady uphill grade and a few short steep sections on the way up. *It is not a level walk in the park.*

You should be doing regular aerobic exercise to participate. Dress for weather with non cotton clothes, and wear hiking boots. Bring water and bug stuff. Meet at the Bennett Hill Trailhead on Bennett Hill Rd, New Scotland. Will postpone for rain. Start the month of May in Middleburgh with a short hike up the everchanging trails of Vroman's Nose.
At the top, there is an awesome view of the Schoharie Valley that is worth the effort, as well as the drive. This is a short, but sweet, hike with an elevation of about 500ft. The hike is a loop that is approximately 2 miles, and generally takes about one hour - depending on how long you linger at the top to take in the beautiful view!

The main trailhead for Vroman's Nose is a large parking area on Mill Valley Road in Middleburgh. There is a sign for the parking area.

This in-and-out hike starts in the back of the picnic area and ends at the overlook. For an easier hike to the overlook take the Baker Trail. View and feeling of accomplishment are worth every step! From the overlook, there are views of Moreau Lake and the Green Mountains over in Vermont on a clear day. There are a few steep rocky areas that could be challenging
You should be relatively fit, as there are steep sections. We may loop around the pond on the way back to get more steps in depending on weather.
