Hiking with Friends is a group from Walnut Creek Friends Church and others who enjoy hiking the hills in Contra Costa County and other Bay Area locations. This group is for anyone who enjoys making new friends and exploring the great outdoors while developing stronger relationships with Jesus, nature, and one another.

Hanging Valley Loop from Borges Ranch

I love to take naps in my hammock and I've napped many times at Hanging Valley which is essentially a grassy hammock suspended among the hills in the Diablo Foodhills Regional Park.
This moderate to difficult 4.78 mile loop with cumulative 912 ft elevation gain, like a hammock, definitely has it's ups and downs and comes with excellent views of Mount Diablo and the surrounding hills. Here is a map for your reference.

Let's meet at the Old Borges Ranch House parking area at 1035 Castle Rock Rd in Walnut Creek at 9:00 am. This is the first parking area you come to on the right before the ranch (see location map). Alternatively, you can meet me for carpooling from the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot at 8:15 am. Please confirm to coordinate timing.
Be sure to bring layers, sturdy boots/shoes, water to drink, a snack to eat, and as usual, an attitude for making friends.

Morgan Territory Preserve Loop
Morgan Territory Regional Preserve, 9401 Morgan Territory Rd, Livermore, CA, USPrepare to be amazed by this gorgeous hike in the wilderness behind Mt. Diablo. Although it takes time to get here, this remote beauty is well worth it with its rolling hills, ancient oaks, awesome views, and solitude.
This is a relatively easy to medium trail with a distance of 6.1 miles and 669 feet elevation gain. Let’s meet up at 9:00 AM at the Morgan Territory Road Staging Area at 9401 Morgan Territory Rd, Livermore.
Alternatively, you can meet me at 8:00 AM for carpooling from the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot at 1950 First Avenue in Walnut Creek. Please confirm to coordinate timing.
Be sure to bring layered clothing, sturdy boots or shoes, a hat, plenty of water, a snack, and as usual, an attitude for making friends!
