What we’re about
Welcome! Join us in hiking in and about Nevada County CA. We hike at a regular pace at 2-3 mph for from 3-6 miles or so. We like to hike as a group, often socializing along, but if you need to cut it short no problem. Many hikes are in and around Grass Valley and Nevada City CA.
People that come on these hikes through Nevada County (sometimes adjacent counties) vary from well seasoned hikers to those getting started, many are retirement age, though all ages are welcome and often do come along.
We hike a lot of different trails on and off pavement from the valleys to Sierra peaks, sometimes with themes like fall foliage hikes. Hikers can enjoy looking at and discussing the range of plants, history, geology and other features to be found hiking through Nevada County.
- Please allow plenty of time to find the starting location so that everyone's time is respected. We like to leave pretty close to the starting time listed, and always make an effort to check who is signed up and who is present before leaving.
- Mark yourself as Not Going if you are unable to attend.
- Carpool if you can.
Participation in Hiking with Through Nevada County meetup group is at your own risk. We are volunteers, not professional guides. Stan and Johanna 775-230-6290

Quote on walking by Soren Kierkegaard:
"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day, I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right."
