Time for the next event of the Göttinger Book Club!! We'll meet Friday 4 July, 17:30 at the GARTENHAUS (Friedrichstraße 3-4).
English? Deutsch? Egal, solange du Bücher und Lesen liebst!
For this event, we decided on reading Blackout by Marc Elsberg (it's orginally in Geman, but feel free to read in your language of preference ;)).
Here's the concept of our monthly Reading Meetup:
- Everyone brings a book of fiction, no matter if it is an all-time classic or a brand new piece of literature, but one that has made you think and made an impression.
- We discuss the books we brought (trying not to spoiler them :)) and then pick one of them to read until the next event one month later.
- We discuss the book we decided to read last time.
- If you were not able to read the book: no problem! Everybody always brings a book and there will be plenty to talk about aside from the book we picked the previous time.
- We have a drink & chat about books, books, books and their meaning :)
As I have to make a reservation at the Gartenhaus AND we usually have a waiting list, please make sure you change your rsvp if you can't make it after all!
To get your thoughts going, here are some of the general questions you might consider about the book you're bringing & the one we're reading:
- What is the book about, what genre, etc. And what is the author really talking about?
- How did the book make you think? What did it make you feel?
- What stands out about the use of language, structure, time, places, etc.
- How did the historical context, the author's circumstances, etc. influence the book?
Happy reading & see you there!
