About us
We're old, we're slow, get over it.
If you're looking to leap out of bed at 7am and power-walk while obsessively tracking calories burned per hour, congratulations, you're in the wrong place. Please see yourself out.
But if you're looking to peel your tukus off the couch and hike alongside people who know exactly what "be kind, rewind" means (and still feel a flicker of rage about late fees), then welcome home.
We do 2–5 miles at a pace best described as "leisurely with snack breaks," soaking in the scenery around Geauga County. Pace is set by whoever has to pee first. We hike at the speed of nostalgia. We rewound cassettes with a pencil, taped songs off the radio while cursing the DJ who talked over the intro, and rode in the way-back of the station wagon. A little hiking isn't going to kill us. Probably. Eventually we'd like to do one hike a week, assuming our knees cooperate and nobody's got a thing that day.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/jtnLLRkBS1ZvPSXc6This time we're walking the 2.5 mile Chagrin River Trail. It's a mostly flat stroll beside the river with a little loop at the end by the Oxbow Lagoon. Yes, an honest to goodness lagoon. Don't think Blue Lagoon, think green lagoon. Less Brooke Shields, more Swamp Thing. But still a lagoon.
No gorges. No cliffs. No Goonies-style booby traps. Your knees have been granted a temporary reprieve by the governor.
Expect wildflowers, birds, and the soothing sound of moving water, which at our age is either relaxing or a reminder to find a restroom. Relax, there's a bathroom at the halfway point. Think of it as a commercial break, minus the Members Only jacket ad.
Now, about the trail itself. There's a good amount of boardwalk, but also stretches of narrow forest path that slap at your shins like a Slap Bracelet with a grudge. That brush is prime real estate for ticks, the ultimate uninvited plus-one. Basically Duckie showing up at prom. Long pants are your friend. We'll do a post-hike tick check, Stand By Me leech-scene style, but with less screaming. Hopefully.
There's also one small stream crossing. Tiny. Barely a stream. No Truffle Shuffle required to get across, but wear real shoes, not the white Reeboks you've been saving since 1987.
If the event shows as full, just show up.
