Ely Outdoors

(Trying this one again:)

Meet on the riverside at the bottom of Jubilee Gardens (by the "boulder fountain", see photo) at 11 a.m., for a roughly 5-mile circular walk to Queen Adelaide and back. We'll have a brief stop about halfway round, so you may wish to bring a drink and/or snack to consume at that point.

I expect the walk to take 2½-3 hours, and at the end, those who wish to could visit one of Ely's pubs for further refreshments. The most obvious choices for this are the Cutter Inn, or the Riverside Bar & Kitchen (aka RBK).

RSVPs are understood to be provisional, i.e. might be removed if you are put off by the weather forecast, by a lack of other RSVPs, or for any other reason.

For anyone driving to Ely:

• The public car parks, e.g. Ship Lane (the closest), or Forehill car park, are free, but that might make it difficult to find a space at this time on a Saturday morning.
• Alternatively, there might be spaces outside the Cutter Inn (at the end of Annesdale), or along one of the nearby streets (e.g. Castlehythe, Victoria Street).
• Tesco, by the railway station, allows parking for up to 3 hours, which might be enough for the walk (just), but probably not for the pub visit too.
• If all else fails, there will be parking spaces at the railway station, where you will have to pay £6.70 and then walk for 10 minutes to our meeting point.
• Wherever you decide to look for a parking space, do allow plenty of time to find one and to then walk to our meeting point.

For anyone getting the train to Ely: the riverside at Jubilee Gardens is approximately 10 minutes' walk from the railway station.
