About us
Welcome to the DC Urban Walkers! We explore urban environments throughout DC and the surrounding areas. As part of our focus on urban areas, we prioritize Metro accessibility and typically start and stop at stations. Sometimes we host special day trips where we visit nearby cities by train. The routes can have mixed terrain including sidewalks, gravel, hiking trials, etc. Note that while we do include hiking trails within cities, we do not consider ourselves a hiking group.

Mass Ave Walk (10 miles, Friendship Heights -> Stadium Armory)
Friendship Heights Metro Station, 5337 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20015, Washington, DC, USLet's walk the entirety of Massachusetts Avenue!
We will start at Friendship Heights and walk the 1 mile along Western Ave, where we will connect to Mass Ave. Then we will follow the road all the way to the end by Stadium Armory. This is a great way to see a large verity of DC's prettiest neighborhoods.Start Location: Friendship Heights Metro Station
Friendship Heights has 5 metro entrances! We will meet at the Northwest corner of Wisconsin and Western. This is the entrance closest to Bloomingdale and Keiser.
End Location: Stadium Armory Metro Station

Wharf Waddle on the D.C. Southwest Heritage trail
Waterfront Metro station, 399 M St SW, Washington, DC 20024, Washington, DC, USThis wonderous walk is a 4.5mile easy loop that is flat albeit one hill. Pace: 3mph. The trek traverses the historical Southwest (SW) Heritage trail that waddles into the Washington, D.C. Wharf! Highlights include the colorful Culture House (former historic church), the Maine Lobsterman Memorial, & the 'Oculus Eye' from above.
Upon departure the circuit sees Wheat Row, one of D.C.'s oldest residencies. After a meander at a TITANIC MEMORIAL, the walk then wanders the neighborhood passing Fort McNair and Lansburgh park, followed by the recently opened Rubell Museum. The trek pitstops at the lavish SW Library that has accessible restrooms before resuming through the SW Duck pond.
Latter of the circuit ascends to BENJAMIN BANNEKER PARK, named for an early surveyor mapping the City. A spur follows over the Washington Channel of the Potomac river, offering an opulent overlook of the Wharf. The trek descends some stairs then dawdles down the docks viewing robust restaurants as well as beautiful boats, before concluding through a trimmed-up terrace, finally terminating along the Arena Stage.
NOTES:
1. Trail Forecast= MAP | Street shoes best. Metro commuting is advised, alight from WATERFRONT STATION (GR); this is where the walk starts & finishes. Car parking is available here in Wharf Garage #3; then proceed to Meet Spot.
