What we’re about

Looking to escape to the wilderness at the weekends?

I’m Phil, a walk leader with the Ramblers Association and I’m thrilled to launch this new motivational hiking group on Meetup!

If you’re interested in regular 8 to 12 mile hikes in the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale and Weardale, all led with a generous dose of healthy banter and ending in the pub or cafe, then read on for the obligatory small print:

DISCLAIMER:
The aim of this group is to promote hiking events for fitness and social purposes (not for profit).
All such events are led in a voluntary capacity and all members participate at their own risk.
This is a private group and not affiliated to the Ramblers Association (no insurance cover).

GRADE OF WALKS:
All walks are ‘Moderate’ which for this group typically means:

  • routes are mainly low gradient with some medium to steep ascents.
  • distances are normally between 8 and 12 miles.
  • sections of paths are likely to be muddy and/or uneven.
  • it may include crossing a shallow stream or similar if safe to do so.
  • waterproof walking boots are essential.

PACE:
The average pace is 3 miles per hour.
Lunch stop is usually 30 mins (depending on weather).
Water stops as necessary.

DOGS:
Dogs will not be permitted if significant livestock is expected to be present that can roam across the right of way for substantial parts of a planned walk.

If dogs are permitted they must not pose a danger or nuisance to other people and animals. They must be appropriately disciplined and under direct control by their owner.
