Summary:
Feelin’ groovy? How about a Flower Power Macro Shoot at the New York Botanical Gardens? Bring your imagination! This class should be a lot of fun. This class we’ll be going to the New York Botanical Gardens, Flower Power, exhibit to hone our Macro Photography skills. We’ll discuss the nature of Floral Macro Photography and explore the magic of capturing images close up.

What We’ll Learn:
How to create ironic images with Macro Photography.
Discussion and of the principles associated with Macro Photography.
Understand expose compensation (Bellows Extension).

What to Bring:
A digital camera and a macro lens or a digital camera and an ordinary portrait lens and a macro extender ring.
Macro Extender Rings are much less expensive than Macro Lenses. In my experience, they work as well or better. Many third party Extender Rings are as effective as name brand and third party Extender Rings are less expensive.

Additional Costs:
Participants are responsible for Botanical Garden entry and parking fees. Additional parking is usually available at Fordham University across the street from the Botanical Garden’s main gate.

Field Trip:
Yves Saint Laurent and Photography explores the powerful relationship Yves Saint Laurent forged between fashion and photography over four decades, revealing how photography functioned not only as a tool for promotion but also as a creative force that helped define a legacy. Organized in collaboration with the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris and the Fondation Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent, it brings together more than 300 iconic photographs and archival objects.

Featuring work by celebrated artists such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Guy Bourdin, Robert Doisneau, Horst P. Horst, William Klein, Annie Leibovitz, Steven Meisel, Duane Michals, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, David Seidner, Andy Warhol, and others, the exhibition pairs these photographs with contact sheets, campaign materials, magazines, and personal images. Together, they reveal how Yves Saint Laurent established a blueprint for the way the fashion world is visualized and understood today.

Summary:
Capture the intense colors of fall foliage. This class will take us to Pomerance / Tuchman Park in Greenwich, CT.
Capture the magnificent lake side reflections of the surrounding fall foliage. We’ll then take a quick hike to some interesting architectural ruins and explore interesting angles to photograph them. There’s even an Italian style Trulli at the entrance where we can get some cool portraits of each other.

What We’ll Learn
How to capture lakeside reflections in early morning light.
How to use a Circular Polarizing Filter to maximize color saturation and control reflections.
How to find interesting perspectives when photographing architectural ruins.

What to Bring:
A digital camera and a polarizing filter if you have one. The diameter of the filter has to match your lens.
B+W and Heliopan have a reputation of being optically superior filters. I have had no problems with less expensive Hoya and Tiffen. As long as there are no scratches in the glass, used filters are a less expensive option.
A set of fully charged batteries.
A memory card with enough space to hold your work.
