What we’re about

A bookclub dedicated to the writing of the French author, mime, actress, journalist, lover of cats and all things decadent. If you are familiar with the Gabrielle Sidonie Colette, you understand how an entire bookclub could be dedicated to discussing her fiction as well as her turbulent and fascinating life, and if you are unfamiliar with Colette, prepare yourself for a new obsession. Reading Colette is the literary equivalent of a fine French meal: a roast chicken with buttery potatoes and a glass of very good wine followed by a chocolate soufflé for dessert.
We will begin by reading "Gigi:" a quintessential Colette novella that was also produced on Broadway in the 1950s and starred Audrey Hepburn. The novel is about a Parisian teenager named Gigi who is being raised by her grandmother and great aunt, both retired courtesans.
We will meet at Doceur de France in Marietta one Sunday a month.
