Three of Anton Chekhov's best stories
Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive, Chapel Hill, NC, USYou never know what will transpire when you take a walk along the beach...
That is what occurs in Chekhov's story “The Lady with the Dog”, widely regarded as one of his best. In “The Darling,” we follow the life of Olenka. We may read this story much differently than readers in 1900. In “The Black Monk,” the title character asserts, “I exist in your imagination, and your imagination is a part of Nature, so I must exist also in Nature.”
Find all three stories for $12 in The Greatest Stories of Anton Chekhov. They're also available as free downloads from Project Gutenberg at The Lady with the Dog and Other Stories and The Darling and Other Stories.
The three stories total fewer than sixty pages. This month, we are being easy on ourselves, since in March and April, we will be doing some heavy lifting as we read and discuss Vasily Grossman’s widely praised (but quite long!) Life and Fate.2 attendees
