Setting: "Koningsplein" te Maastricht (the big grassfield where the "Limburgs Bevrijdingsmonument" is located), we get together and we play "een potje Tienen" ("a game of keep-ups").
What is this game?
Tienen starts with bidding down from 20 in turns. This will go down up to 11, whereas all other players start with 10. The one whom actually ends up somewhere with the lowest between 11 and 20 - get's to be the first goalkeeper. And you do NOT want want to be in goal ideally, as that is the way to loose points. However, if you of course start with - for example 16 - you have 6 more points to lose than the other players starting at 10 (though in the field).
What is the goal of the game?
The goal is to maintain your points, as the one whom reaches 0 points first - get his "ass burned" (kontje branden) - meaning that he will have to stand bent over with ass towards all other players - and each player will be able to kick the ball from 7 meters - ON YOUR BUTT (if hitting :))
You will lose points once you are on goal and people make points:
- Normal ball - 1 point
- Headball - 2 points
- Healball - 2 points
- overhead kick - 5 points
See full rules here (in Dutch though): https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tienen_(voetbalspel)
Other important rules
- If the ball gets caught mid-air by the keeper, the last one in-the-field whom touched the ball, becomes goalkeeper. There is only an indicated field by which the keeper can catch! Important: The one in goal that goes into the field after catching - can quickly throw and have someone sneakily headball in.
- Once a goaly has below 5 points, the field players should run away as fast as possible as the goalkeeper can actually throw the ball - and once hit, that person will need to go into the goal.
