About us
Boulder Ramblers was founded in 2015 by Colorado-based Walk2Connect (now a program of America Walks) in partnership with the City of Boulder. For six years, we operated as the Boulder chapter of Walk2Connect, offering community walking, hiking, and rambling events in and throughout Boulder County, CO, with a focus on building genuine connections to others, to the places we live, and to ourselves. In 2021, the Boulder Ramblers community assumed ownership of this group to keep rambling together.
Our community members host walks, hikes, and urban adventures throughout the year. Check our calendar to find what's coming up. We focus on urban hiking: exploring the quiet streets, multi-use paths, and trail systems east of the foothills (with some adventures in the higher elevations within Boulder city limits). Please be sure to read the walk/hike descriptions carefully to determine whether a particular adventure is right for you. We tend to move at a steady "fitness" pace (2.5-3 MPH), unless otherwise noted.
This group offers great ways to get to know local urban trail systems and find creative, appealing ways to connect destinations in Boulder, Louisville, Superior, Lafayette, and beyond by foot. We advocate for "life at 3 miles per hour," slowing down the pace of life to appreciate how we are connected to everything around us. We are a safe, welcoming and affirming community that supports people of all backgrounds, identities, and circumstances.
Check back often as new walks will be added throughout the year. Have a great idea for a walk or urban hike? We'd love to hear from you!

Walk 360 Slow Marathon
Neptune Mountaineering, 633 S Broadway St. Ste A, Boulder, CO, USTYPE: Long Distance | PACE: Fitness/Conversational | TERRAIN: Sidewalks, dirt trails, paved multi-use paths | DISTANCE: Approx. 26 miles
Celebrate Walk and Bike Month by walking ALL the way around Boulder on the 26-mile Walk 360 Slow Marathon!
On Saturday, June 27, we'll go on a grand all-day adventure, walking counter-clockwise around the city on a BRAND NEW Walk 360 route, with several significant updates from previous years:
- This year, we're starting and ending in South Boulder! We'll meet at the Table Mesa Shopping Center, outside Neptune Mountaineering.
- Rather than walking along the US 36 Bikeway, we will connect with the South Boulder Creek Trail from CU South.
- On the western side, we will connect with the Mesa Trail from Chautauqua Park, following it to the Bear Canyon Trail, skipping the city streets.
See the NEW full route map here. Throughout the day, we'll traverse every kind of walking surface in the city, explore diverse neighborhoods and enjoy cool parks and open spaces along Boulder's urban edges. There are five designated rest stops along the way, with two hosted by Boulder Ramblers community members.
Registration is required and is free. Everyone who completes the route will receive a Walk 360 sticker. Challenge yourself to this one-of-a-kind adventure!
Schedule and Planning: We'll meet in the plaza outside of Neptune Mountaineering Cafe at Table Mesa Shopping Center at 7:00 a.m. and finish the full loop by about 5:30 p.m.
Please note: the Neptune Mountaineering Cafe will not be open, but you can go into King Soopers to use the restroom and pick up refreshments. King Soopers opens at 6 am. We are meeting by Neptune because that is the best place for a large group to gather.
We'll walk counter-clockwise, going from Table Mesa to East Boulder Recreation Center via South Boulder Creek Trail, north to Valmont Bike Park, stop in the Holiday neighborhood for lunch, continue around to North Boulder Park and Chautauqua Park, hike OSMP trails to South Boulder's Shanahan Ridge neighborhood, then close the loop at our starting place.
Walking Movement Leaders: This event will be led by experienced Ramblers, including Darcy, who created the Walk 360 in 2017. She is the author of "The Best Urban Hikes: Boulder." You can reach Darcy at (720) 805-8293 or besturbanhikesboulder@gmail.com.
Trip Notes:
~ Our route takes us around the city, in the city. There are plenty of "bail points" if you don't feel like you can finish the route. That said, please do prepare to walk the entire 26 miles. Please ONLY sign up for this urban hike if you are ready to walk ALL DAY!
~ Before the event, you must familiarize yourself with the map. The route is also mapped in two parts in CalTopo: eastern half and western half.
~ We highly recommend you download the CalTopo app and follow the maps in the app. Darcy will also create new turn-by-turn directions before the event to provide participants with more guidance.
~ Prepare for rocky, steep, uneven paths on some of the trails.
~ Dogs are NOT allowed on this event (some trail sections do not allow them).Waiver of Liability: By signing up for this walk, you acknowledge that you are responsible for your own safety and well-being throughout the event. This is a volunteer-led experience. Volunteers are not liable for any injury or illness that may happen during the event or that results from participating in this event.
