What we’re about
A book, some coffee and great conversations. Hooked on Books is for everyone who feels a connection to Books and Reading. We read different genres and meet to discuss a new book, to ponder, share our thoughts and talk about the chosen book. Our Meetings are on the second Saturday of the month at 10am.
Post a head shot profile picture so we can all put your face with your name.
Our discussions usually last an hour.
Arrive 15 minutes early to grab a coffee, catch up with each other and take in the setting.
There is a poll to determine what we'll read next. The book selection process is simple – members suggest books and we'll vote for the books we want to read.
These meetups are fairly relaxed, so if you weren't able to finish the book or haven't had a chance to read it, you are still more than welcome to come to the meeting just to discuss books in general, laugh, share stories and make new friends!
And as Dr. Seuss said,“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn the more places you'll go."

Water for Elephants at the Buell Theater (Buy Your Own Ticket)
Temple Buell Theatre, 1101 13th Street, Denver, CO, USWater for Elephants...a book I read when it came out in 2006 later became a film in 2011 and now a musical! Let's check it out! This is also posted with other meetups Classical Connection and Baby Boomers Social Club.
Original Story...When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, drifters, and misfits, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression, making one-night stands in town after endless town. A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that he meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, who is married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her. Beautifully written, Water for Elephants is illuminated by a wonderful sense of time and place. It tells a story of a love between two people that overcomes incredible odds in a world in which even love is a luxury that few can afford.
The musical is described as...After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life—and love—beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age.
