What we’re about
Hello and welcome to the Skagit Whatcom Adventure Group! We are all about getting outside, having adventures of all kinds, meeting new people, and, most of all, having fun. We are open to anyone with an adventurous spirit. Our vision is to have a variety of different events hosted by a diverse leadership team.
In the past year we’ve led lots of hikes, played in the snow, attended live music events, gone to outdoor-related movies, and, of course, eaten plenty of good food. We hope to see you on one of our adventures soon!
Dues for this group are $5 annually, which covers the fees Meetup charges to host and maintain the website. We have set this price low to keep it affordable to all and we believe it’s a great value for your money.
The fine print:
- If signing-up for an event, please make every effort to attend. We understand that life happens at inopportune times, however no-shows will be documented and three no-shows may result in removal from the group. Please update your RSVP with as much advance notice as possible, even if it’s just an hour before the start. Otherwise, the group can end up waiting for someone at a carpool location or a trail-head (where there's often no cell reception).
- Organizers in this group are not guides, instructors, or medical professionals. You alone are 100% responsible for your own safety and comfort and for the safety of those you bring as guests. We may give you our opinions on whether or not an activity is suitable for you, but the ultimate responsibility lies with you, as we are not experts. Certain activities may require other gear. If you don't know, ask! Someone can likely share advice or ideas.
- Be respectful and have fun. We are a group of fun-loving people who enjoy the outdoors and staying active. We are also a diverse group of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities, and we believe in treating everyone fairly and equally. We ask that you do the same and we’ll all have a great time.

- Oct. 9 - Wild & Scenic Film Festival @ Lincoln TheaterThe Lincoln Theater , Mount Vernon, WA
Join us Thursday, Oct. 9 for the Wild & Scenic Film Festival at Mt. Vernon's Lincoln Theater. This evening of short films will kick off with a reception with live music starting at 6 pm, followed by the film showing at 7 pm. We may get together for dinner beforehand if there's interest (leave a note in the comments).
"The Wild & Scenic Film Festival will feature short films that will delight the senses, inform our minds and help us appreciate nature and the struggles to protect it. Films will be selected from a collection of over 100 films shown at the annual film festival held in Nevada City, California.
These films capture the spirit of varying environmental movements across the globe and the relationship that they have to humanity and that humanity has to them. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival works with environmental groups across the globe to host On Tour events as a way to outreach into different communities and bring together a diverse audience.
The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the community in restoring wild salmon populations for future generations. Salmon habitat enhancement is accomplished through habitat restoration, monitoring, and a wide variety of community outreach and education programs. Skagit Fisheries offers free educational programs to over 1,500 students each year. These opportunities get students out of their classrooms and learning hands-on real science and watershed exploration which otherwise would not be available and affordable to local schools. Funds raised will go towards supporting these important education programs, and will enable the program to continue to be offered free of charge to local schools."You must buy your own tickets from the Lincoln Theater here. They are $20 ($25 at the door) with the proceeds going to Skagit Fisheries. There's a chance this will sell out, so get your tickets soon.
We will meet in front of the theater at 6:00 PM and go in en masse to find a place to sit. If you can't make it by 6, let us know in the comments and we'll save you seat.
