Join us for a battle of wits, a clash of kings, and a war of pawns !!! The Bayonne Chess Society & Club is where strategy meets sass, and tactics meet trolling. We're not just a club, we're a chess-fueled party. Who will be the next Queen for our very own Queen's Gambit? Who will be the next King? Chess is booming online, and around the world. Come for the games, stay for the laughs. And, who knows, you might even learn something. (But, no promises.) We do know chess is known to be beneficial in helping improve memory, focus, and concentration. It also aids in creativity, abstract thinking, and self awareness. It's also been found to protect against Dementia, and it can help with ADHD. It's also part of the curriculum in many Russian schools. Doesn't take a genius to figure out why.
I created the group mid-November 2023. We are currently at over 500+ ADULT MEMBERS, when combined with the parent group on Facebook. Word of mouth has been tremendous. We just had our anniversary tournament, and we had standing room only at the venue. There were 32 participants, including prominent chess author and Danish Fide Master Carsten Hansen. Yes, THAT Carsten Hansen....author of over 65 chess books, and world renowned for his opening expertise. have no idea how many children we have.
As I mentioned earlier, most of the group is in the parent group on Facebook. So, if you want to see where all the people are...you can join there as well. They will all tell you they have a fantastic time sharing their love of chess. Just answer the simple questions and agree to the group rules, and you'll be accepted. We have declined many people, because for some reason they have issues with answering simple questions and agreeing to rules. We want members.. NOT JOINERS. Yet, we're growing at an insane rate. We weed out those who join, and don't do anything after several months. Like I said...we want participants...NOT JOINERS. They don't move the ball forward.
We have gotten players joining from outside areas. We have Hoboken, Jersey City, Staten Island, Newark, Oldbridge, and Paramus as members. Word gets around.
So, don't miss out on the fun, friends and friendly competition. Remember, it's free to play chess, but the venues aren't. Patronize them !!! You can chill and play chess for a few hours ..it's the least you can do. We also have a 'Boardgame Division', for members that play everything other than chess. We have a group on Meetup under the same name, but of course ' Boardgame Division' Feel free to join there as well. We have 'Combo Nights', where members can come play whatever their heart desires. Bring it...play it. We also have games at the locations where we hold the combo events.

Weather is warming up, so we're heading back to OJ Macs for some outside chess in their back area. Got a bit too nippy towards the end of last year, so we were only able to meet four times. This time we're starting early. Come hang out for some chess, and if you can't get enough, you can go across the street to Mom and Pops, where they're having a 'Combo Event'. They're playing all types of games, including chess. So, make a day of it.
The Bayonne Chess Society & Club meets 5 evenings a week at different venues. We have a venue that goes from 1pm to 5pm on Saturdays. We just added another afternoon venue, starting Sunday. April 6th. That also goes from 1 pm to 5 pm. So, in total, we meet 6 days a week. We also have spontaneous meetups sometimes on days when nothing is scheduled. Some players can't get enough of chess. We also have a weekly friendly club chess tournament online. All members can play.

We also offer free group chess classes, on another day, for those who are brand new or just wanting to improve their game. We also have other days during the week where we meet expressly for chess. So, Chess is alive and growing in Bayonne. So join us. We're already over 500+ members...NOT including children. So, we've grown rapidly.
If you decide to join us .... understand, we are looking for participants, serious members. People that want to have a good time and just chill will others. Non participants will be removed. They can return, when they can actually participate. We're looking for players...not joiners, who never do anything. Clubs don't grow, when people do nothing. Then when you're ready to participate, feel free to join. No harm no foul.
