Alpine Trekkers is an international hiking, trekking, mountaineering and outdoor adventure community, headquartered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), bringing together people who share a passion for mountains, nature, exploration, physical challenges and meaningful connections.

🏔️ ALPINE TREKKERS DIFFICULTY SYSTEM
Across our international communities, we use a 1–10 hiking and mountaineering difficulty scale to help participants understand activity requirements and select adventures appropriate to their fitness, experience and mountain skills.
🟢 LEVEL 1 — Easy / Beginner
Up to 5 km | Up to 100 m elevation gain
Relaxed introductory hikes and nature walks suitable for people beginning their outdoor journey. Generally involve manageable terrain and a comfortable pace.
🟢 LEVEL 2 — Beginner+
5–8 km | 100–200 m elevation gain
Suitable for beginners looking for a little more adventure, with mild climbs, longer distances and generally manageable terrain.
🟡 LEVEL 3 — Moderate
8–10 km | 200–500 m elevation gain
Requires reasonable fitness and preferably some previous hiking experience. May include rocky trails, uneven surfaces and moderate climbs.
🟡 LEVEL 4 — Intermediate
10–15 km | 500–1,000 m elevation gain
Longer mountain routes requiring good fitness, stamina and previous hiking experience. May involve sustained climbs and more challenging terrain.
🟠 LEVEL 5 — Intermediate+
15–20 km | 1,000–1,600 m elevation gain
Demanding hikes involving longer distances, steeper ascents and rugged mountain terrain. Previous mountain hiking experience is strongly recommended.
🟠 LEVEL 6 — Advanced
20–25 km | 1,600–2,200 m elevation gain
Strenuous mountain adventures requiring strong fitness, endurance and substantial hiking experience. Routes may include steep climbs, exposed sections and demanding terrain.
🔴 LEVEL 7 — Advanced+
25–30 km | 2,200–3,000 m elevation gain
Highly demanding mountain objectives requiring excellent endurance, strong physical conditioning and significant previous mountain experience.
🔴 LEVEL 8 — Expert
30+ km | 3,000+ m elevation gain
Exceptionally demanding mountain challenges requiring extensive preparation, exceptional stamina and advanced mountain experience.
Routes may involve difficult terrain, significant exposure, altitude and very long days.
⚫ LEVEL 9 — Extreme / Technical
Route dependent
Technical mountain objectives that may involve scrambling, exposed terrain, rope work, snow, ice, glaciers or difficult navigation.
Relevant technical skills, experience and specialized equipment may be required.
⚫ LEVEL 10 — Expedition / Mountaineering
Expedition dependent
Major multi-day, high-altitude or technical mountaineering objectives requiring extensive preparation, appropriate experience, strong physical conditioning and potentially specialized technical skills.
Participation requirements depend on the expedition.
⚠️ IMPORTANT — Understanding Difficulty Ratings
Distance and elevation gain are guidelines, not the sole measures of difficulty.
Terrain, weather, exposure, altitude, temperature, snow, ice, scrambling, technical requirements, navigation, pace and activity duration can significantly influence the overall challenge.
For example, a shorter mountain route in Switzerland, Canada or the United Kingdom may be more demanding than a longer hike elsewhere because of weather, technical terrain or exposure.
The published event difficulty and participation requirements always take priority over the general guidelines above.

🌱 NEW TO ALPINE TREKKERS?
Welcome to our international adventure community!
Whether you are completely new to hiking or already have mountain experience, Alpine Trekkers offers opportunities to explore, improve and progress.
LEVELS 1–3 | Beginner to Moderate
Recommended starting point for newcomers. Develop basic trail awareness, discover your fitness level and become familiar with hiking equipment, hydration and outdoor preparation.
LEVELS 4–5 | Intermediate
Suitable for hikers with growing experience, good fitness and the ability to manage longer distances and more demanding mountain terrain.
LEVELS 6–7 | Advanced
Designed for experienced hikers with strong endurance, established mountain skills and substantial previous hiking experience.
LEVELS 8–10 | Expert to Expedition
Intended for experienced mountain participants who may need advanced skills, specialized equipment, altitude experience or technical training.
Participation may be subject to additional requirements or leader approval.
Remember, completing one difficulty level does not automatically qualify you for the next.

🎒 BEFORE JOINING AN EVENT
Before registering for an Alpine Trekkers activity, please:
• Read the complete event description.
• Check the difficulty level, distance, elevation gain and expected duration.
• Understand the terrain, weather conditions and required experience.
• Bring the appropriate footwear, clothing, equipment, water and food.
• Follow the meeting instructions and event registration requirements.
• Inform the organizer of any relevant limitations affecting safe participation.
• Respect the event leaders and fellow participants.
• Follow local trail regulations and environmental guidelines.
Outdoor adventures involve inherent risks, and conditions can change unexpectedly.
Depending on weather, trail conditions, participant abilities and safety considerations, event organizers may modify routes, schedules or activities.
Safety, preparation and responsible decision-making always take priority over reaching a summit or destination.
Activities and operational arrangements may differ between countries according to local regulations and environmental conditions.

👤 OUR FOUNDER
Alpine Trekkers was founded by Chogo Ree (Siddiq Fegum), whose mountain journey began in 2006 as a porter and gradually developed into professional trekking, guiding and expedition leadership.
His mountain experience spans the UAE and numerous international destinations, including Kilimanjaro, the Karakoram/K2 region, Everest Base Camp, Mount Elbrus, the Atlas Mountains and Sabah.
Drawing on years of practical mountain experience, he established Alpine Trekkers in 2021 with a vision to make outdoor adventure more accessible while promoting preparation, responsible progression, practical mountain knowledge and genuine connections with nature.
Today, Alpine Trekkers continues to build an international community inspired by these principles.
