We're having this event an hour later because afterwards, those of us who are hardy and can take the cold (5° anybody?) can go few blocks over to Powderhorn Park and enjoy the Art Sled Rally!

Is from 2 to 4pm
Located on the western slopes of Powderhorn Park, near 10th Avenue S. and East 33rd St. Minneapolis.

The Art Sled Rally, currently in its 12th or 15th year, (we don’t really keep track), is put on by a rotating group neighborhood artists and families in and around the Powderhorn Neighborhood who all want to enrich the spirit of community life in Powderhorn through free public events with a focus on artistic expression and out-of-the-ordinary spectacle.

We all choose to create a mass sledding spectacle, in part, for the history of mass winter events at Powderhorn Park that began around a hundred years ago. You will find pictures of incredible pageantry, throngs of people and fantastically sculptured luge tracks in Powderhorn from the early 1900s on up through the sixties.

***This event is open to ANYONE who wants to support some of the people most impacted by ICE in Minneapolis***

Many of the businesses at Midtown Global Market are suffering because of the ICE raids all around this area. Manny's is hanging on by a thread and may have to close because of this. Let's support them by having lunch here and eating their delicious sandwiches (tortas).

Manny González's torta stand in the Midtown Global Market survived the burning and looting of Lake Street in 2020, but might not make it through the flood of ICE agents in the immigrant-heavy neighborhood.

"This is worse," González said.
Why it matters: ICE's unprecedented surge into diverse Twin Cities neighborhoods has battered small businesses that had been inching back toward normal after 2020.

The Lake Street Council told the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal that on a given day, up to 60% of the area's businesses are closed. Several were dark at the Global Market.

It goes beyond Lake Street, as the Star Tribune reported similar distress on other corridors, including St. Paul's Payne Avenue.

State of play: Business is down 40% at González's popular Manny's Tortas. He thinks he can only survive another month like this.

The latest: As he talked to Axios from his kitchen on Wednesday, the sound of whistles could be heard as ICE agents walked by outside.

"They just abducted another person," a market staffer said, noting that agents have been a constant presence outside the complex filled with Latino and East African businesses.

Between the lines: Proprietors say their employees are afraid to show up for work, which would be a bigger problem if not for the fact that their customers are also staying home.

It has come to my knowledge that many of you have never been here! It is a really cool place, and they are having live music on this evening.

They have yummy drinks and delicious appetizer/dinners.

"The Volstead Act brought the country into prohibition, and forced the opening of Speakeasies back in 1919. Our space, however, (opened in December of 2015) pays homage to Proper Speakeasies. You will find our entrance down the ally, on the backside of our building - it's the door with the red light above. If you think you walked down the ally to far, just keep walking and look to your left."

Every other Saturday we'll have a brunch located somewhere in the metro area with a preference for the Uptown/ Wedge / Lynlake area.
