1. About the Trip Come and join us for a fun Kayaking trip around the coastline from Shielmartin road in Howth North towards the Baily Lighthouse.. We Kayak along the coastline from Beach North towards the Lighthouse. We pass a Martello tower, one of many of built along the coast of Ireland. These Towers were built during the 19th century as coastal Forts.Fear of Fear of an invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte reached panic proportions among On this trip we see plenty of sea birds including cormerants, sea gulls and terns on the Cliffs, and hopefully some seals .We kayak out to a point where we can see the daily lighthouse. This kayaking session is suitable for the beginners, but all of you have to be 18 years of age and over and must know how to swim. howth sea kayaking
2. History The Baily Lighthouse is located on a rocky promontory over looking Dublin Bay. It was at this location that the Norse Vikings fled to regroup after the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 and was also the point where they boarded their long boats and left Howth for the last time after the Normans invasion in 1177. In 1667 it was decided to build a light signal here to warn ships of the danger at night. The Bailey Lighthouse as you see it today was built in 1814 and it’s tower stands 134 feet above the sea. A fog bell was later added in 1853 In 1996, the lighthouse was converted to automatic operation, and the last of the Keepers left in 1997, making Baily the last Irish lighthouse to go automatic.We stop on a small beach area in the base of the cliffs for some refreshments. We do take some photos during the trip which we will upload to the webpage after the trip. The trip follows the coastline North towards the Baily Lighthouse. 3. We Will Provide:

• all the equipment and sit on top kayaks, life jackets
• wetsuit 3mm, spay top, water boots 3mm, gloves 3mm
• full safety instruction, instructors all the time during trip
• we will make your pictures, you can download after session any time for free

4. What you need to bring

• €45 - Swim wear
• Sports wear and trainers
• Towel - Change of Clothes
• Bottle of water

5. Payment: You will have to pay a deposit of 5 euros (non-refundable if you don’t show up and refundable in case we have to cancel kayaking trip due to bad weather). 6. Directions: If you are driving once you come to the Sutton Cross junction, follow the road called Greenfield road, in about about 800 meters you will need to turn right and drive along coast line till the end of the strand road, you pass Sailing Club, drive more straight for about 500 meters and you will see us. If you are coming by bus you will need to take number 31A from lower Abbey Street and you will need to come out of the stop N688 which is stops at the Shielmartin road and. Once you come out of the bus you should see us.
7. Cancellation policy: - For this kayaking trip to go ahead there must be at least group of 8 people. - If we have to cancel due to bad weather conditions I will let you know within 48 hours so keep an eye on www.time-off.ie all the time. - If trip was cancelled we will reschedule for next available trip or we will refund your deposit. SEA KAYAKING TRIP TO DALKEY ISLAND
1.About the Trip:
We Kayak along the coastline from Killiney beach towards the Sorrento Terrace. From there we cross Dalkey Sound,a strip of water between Dalkey and the Island. We usually see plenty of cormerants, sea gulls and other sea birds on the island, but probably the most famous wild life we will see is a herd of wild goats that have lived on the island for over 100 years. These along with plenty of rabbits and hopefully some seals offer opportunities for some unusual photos.

2. History:
Dalkey Island has an incredibly chequered history for a place that is so small. The church on the island is dedicated to Saint Begnet, it dates back to the eleventh century. The fireplace in it is from the time of the fort on the island and Martello tower. The original windows in the church are arranged in a very strange way and it’s thought that it relates to the keeping of a solar calendar. Behind the church is a curious stone, marked with a cross. It’s thought that this stone may have been a very ancient pagan stone that has been ‘Christianized’. It has evidence of having a carved circle on it but sadly it is now weathered so much that it is difficult to make out the shapes on it.

6. Directions:
If you are not driving then you can take the dart from City Center to Killiney dart station. Once you come out from Dart station you will see car parking and look for the white van. If anybody is coming by car there are loads of parking spaces for only 30 cents per hour.

1. About the Trip

Skerries has five islands in total off its coast. These are Shenick Island, St Patrick's, Colt Island, Rockabill, and Lambay Island; all of them have their own history. We will start our kayaking session from the beach near the Martello Tower. We will paddle to the Shenick's Island first, it should take us 20 minutes. Then we will land there and take some pictures. After we will paddle to the Colt Island for about another 20 minutes and will take our deserved brake there.

2. History

Early writers tell how an island off Skerries was used as a landing place for an invasion, which happened in the second century. This island was either Shenick or Red Island, which would have been a tidal island at the time. When the invaders landed, they formed ranks and at low tide marched to the mainland, where they were promptly defeated at the ancient settlement of Knocknagin, north of Ballbriggan.

6. Directions

If you are driving from the city you need to follow M1 motorway and take exit 4 to Skerries. Once you are in Skerries keep going towards Skerries harbour road till the end and there is a parking near Martello tower.
If you are coming by train take a train from Connoly Station towards Drogheda train station; you will need to get off at Skerries Rail Halt station. Follow the station road till the junction with Dublin road, turn left and take the Skerries harbour road.
The meeting point is sandy beach near the Skerries martello tower.
