Join Metrotrails for an oddball evening LOOP hike around the town of Dover NJ. Please meet at approximately 5:30 PM at the corner of Curtis Street and South Morris Street in Dover. There should be plenty of vehicle parking on either Curtis Street or Summer Ave.
After commencing, we will start off by hiking through Mountain Park. This weird wooded park provides a great view of downtown Dover from a rock overcrop and has a bunch of random trails throughout to follow. The group will then head east from Mountain Park toward South Salem Street. From here we will walk along the Rockaway River heading west toward the Blackwell Street Historic District of Downtown Dover. We will then again meet up with the Rockaway River and begin to walk north through town.
We will walk along some neighborhoods along Baker Street and Hillside Ave, progressing toward Dover High School. At the school there are some unmarked trails in the woods that eventually let out near Home Depot. After reaching Home Depot we will make our way toward Walmart and then toward the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. Depending on when we reach the mall we may either be able to walk through the mall (if it's still open) or the parking lot and walk south toward Commerce Center Drive.
Next we will follow some unmarked trails through the woods that parallels Commerce Center Drive. While the trails are unmarked, they are easy to follow. We will exit the woods for the final time near North Sussex Street and head south toward Downtown again. Finally, we will walk some backgrounds through the southside of Dover closing the loop and leading us back toward Mountain Park.
This hike will feature a combination of some elevation, urbanization, woods, dirt trails, and asphalt roads. There will also be options for food and drink in Dover along the way. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me on Meetup.
