What we’re about
Meet other local hiking enthusiasts as a group of friends exploring, learning, and having fun on the trail and occasionally other ways. Besides hiking we sometimes do: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, camping, biking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, etc.
We range all over CT, central to western MA, and sometimes southern NY. Occasionally we make trips further out typically to central and northern NY, VT, NH, and ME.

See all- Slower 4-mile Hike: Tanager Hill to Pinnacle Peak/Penwood, SimsburyTanager Hill Parking , Simsbury , CT
Overview
Not exactly a beginner hike, but if you are somewhat active and coordinated you will be fine. 4-mile, slower-paced moderate hike with 700 feet elevation, through forests and open areas with a couple of views, and a couple of ponds. We go the pace of the slowest hiker, which is usually me!Hike Description
We'll have a steady climb through the Owen Mortimer land trust, then cross the power lines to Penwood State Park. The trail becomes steeper here, but we'll stop and catch our breaths while admiring (hopefully) the Dutchman's britches that could be blooming! We'll arrive up at Lake Louise for a quick look, then up to Pinnacle Peak to admire the view, have a snack, and congratulate ourselves on the achievement.
On the way back, we'll stop by the top of a little waterfall and see if the Columbines are blooming there, then back to Tanager Hill Property and check out the pond before getting to the cars. What to Bring
Wear hiking shoes or boots appropriate for roots and rocks and steep trails. Poles are helpful if you like using them. Bring water, a high calorie snack, hat, sunscreen, layers, and a backpack to carry it all.A cellphone with backup battery is always wise. A paper map is always a good thing to have just in case.

• END time is an approximation. We may end sooner - or later - depending on the pace of the group and how much we stop to play.
• I keep my groups small - be diligent and thoughtful with your RSVP.
• Oohing and Ahhing over flora and fauna and other cool stuff encouraged.
• We're here to enjoy nature with all of our presence and all of our senses, so please turn your cellphone off and join the Now.=== Legal Stuff ===
