Despite its starting point being within London Travelcard Zone 6, this is a completely rural walk, passing through a succession of lovely open fields & countryside. After lunch we will pass Downe House, the home of Charles Darwin, the naturalist.

This is a moderate walk with hills, and might feel more strenuous due to the high number of styles to cross, therefore is not suitable for beginner hikers. As the group size will be limited to 50 please only rsvp if you definitely plan to attend. Buy tickets on the day.

Due to the short days during the winter, we will have to keep to a brisk pace of upto 3mph in order to complete the walk before dark, please ensure you're ok with this.

Walk starts at 09:50 at knockholt Station. Walk ends around 4pm at knockholt railway Station. Get the 08:57 train from London Victoria to knockholt arr. 09.50. I will get the train from Brixton so will meet you at knockholt station.

Buy a return to knockholt £11 with railcard or groupsave or use oyster card. Bring a packed lunch. Pub stop for lunch. Join us for a full-day, 15-mile circular hike starting from Chesham, showcasing some of the finest scenery the Chiltern Hills have to offer.

We’ll set out from Chesham and make our way through the rolling landscapes that define the Chiltern Hills, with a mix of open hilltops, sweeping views, and peaceful woodland. Our route follows sections of the Chess Valley, one of the most picturesque valleys in the region, where we’ll walk alongside the beautiful River Chess, a rare chalk stream known for its clear water, watercress beds, and wildlife.

Expect a good variety of terrain: gentle climbs, ridge paths with classic Chilterns views, quiet meadows, and riverside trails. This is a rewarding and invigorating walk suitable for hikers comfortable with a longer distance and a steady pace.

Please bring plenty of water, snacks or lunch, and footwear suitable for varied countryside paths.

Difficulty: Moderate, with some gentle hill climbs and a total distance of 15 miles. Suitable for regular walkers with a reasonably good fitness level.

Terrain: A mix of woodland trails, open fields, village paths, and riverside tracks. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially as there may be muddy conditions.

Meet at Chesham underground station. Use contactless payment, cost will vary depending on your starting location.

Refreshments: Bring a packed lunch to enjoy at a scenic spot, we will stop at a village pub or café along the route for refreshments but there may not be time to order food.

As the group size is limited, please only rsvp if you will definitely attend.

New Year, New Addington. Take the tram to explore the North Downs from Zone 4.

Follow a Roman road to the site of a Roman villa. Titsey is a hill 262m / 860ft high with views to match. A nearby square temple built in the early 2nd-C became abandoned. Villa excavations showed signs of fire.

A coccolith crowns the hill, inspired by the creatures that formed the hill 65 million years ago. As another year begins, start as one means to carry on.

Travel & Walk Details:
Walk start 10.30 AM from NEW ADDINGTON Tram Station - Zone 4. Walk ends at CATERHAM rail station. Travelcards or Oyster, contactless cover all travel. The organizer will meet people at the station.
