Drawn to nature

A chance to sketch at the Empty Common allotment site, off Brookland Avenue. The community gardens have asked for a donation of £2 each towards their seed fund, so please bring this with you.

We will meet by the hut. This is at the point shown on the map (What three words location: elder.index.chain), at the end of the allotments furthest from Brooklands Avenue.

This event runs from 11am to 2pm, so please do bring your own sandwiches, drinks and/or snacks if needed. As usual, please also bring your own art materials. A sketching stool is also useful if you have one (but not essential).

If you enter the allotments by the sign in the photo (above) off Brooklands avenue (near the junction with Trumpington Road ) you have to walk up to the far end of the allotments. Alternatively you can walk up the path by Hobson’s Conduit and enter via a gate into the allotments near the hut. There is some parking on Kingfisher Way.

We have the opportunity to move indoors in November and draw some faces... unfortunately this opportunity won't exist for the rest of the winter because unfortunately Thrive is shutting down. For the vegans and veggies among us it's especially bitter news. So if you have ideas about somewhere else that might be a good venue for 2026 please let me know.

This session will require everyone to volunteer some time for posing, so that we have a model for roughly four 30 minute sessions each. If you want to do things a bit differently on your table and do two 15 minute poses each or whatever, of course that's fine.

Please meet upstairs in the cafe at 10pm, and I will use a few playing cards at the beginning to randomly sort us into "pods" of 4 or 5 people each to decide which tables you're on and who you're drawing with.

As usual, I request that everyone show their drawings at the end of the event, if you possibly can. We'll do this at the end, just before 1pm.

If you're wondering about the name of the event, it's a reminder that although we spend a lot of time in this group drawing trees and rivers, we are nature too, we are not separate.
