About us
It’s November, and that means it’s time to chase a story! We’re continuing the legendary NaNoWriMo tradition here in Oahu. The goal? To spend the month making some "Big Messy Art," as the founder called it, and finally get those ideas onto the page.
Whether you're tackling the classic challenge—a full 50,000-word novel in 30 days—or setting your own personal writing goal, this is your community for support. We know writing can be tough, but it's so much better together.
Connect and keep the momentum going:
- In-Person Write-Ins (Oahu): Join us at various spots across the island for dedicated, high-focus writing time. Check out the Events tab for our evolving schedule and come pull up a chair! The complete (and evolving) write-in schedule is here: https://bit.ly/NovelNovember25 (forwards to a Google Doc).
- Online Sprints (Oahu and Beyond): The fun doesn't stop when the cafe closes! Our Discord server is active every night for virtual write-ins, featuring the fun Sprinto bot to help rally your word count. We warmly welcome writers from anywhere in the world—if you're on the mainland, in another country, or just prefer to write at home, the Discord is for you!
- Jump into the Discord here: https://discord.gg/Pk8UETYnmU
We believe that a finished first draft beats a perfect blank page every single time. Come join the fun, meet your fellow writers, and let’s see what amazing mess we can create this month!

Novel November Running Start
RB Sports Bar & Grill (Rock Bottom), 1019 University Ave Ste 1A, Honolulu, HI 96826, USA, Honolulu, HI, USLeap into Novel November at full speed!
A tradition on Oahu for 10+ years continues, this year at RB Sports Bar and Grill in Puck's Alley.
We'll meet at 11. Say hi, get to know each other, have a drink and a bite.
At midnight, we write until we've had enough or until the bar closes at 2.
Two things to consider before you do this:
- It's Halloween night and it's Saturday!
- This bar is at Puck's Alley, the nearest bar to UH Manoa's dorms.
It will probably be crazy. I'll be there to give it my best shot, but if nobody else shows up, I may pack it in early if it's too crazy.
The bar has inexpensive drinks, good food, wifi, and outlets at the bar. The bathrooms are usably clean when I go, but this will be late Saturday night, so who knows?
It's paid parking in the Puck's Alley lot, but I usually find street parking nearby, usually on Coyne Street.
We will also be writing on Discord at the same time, so if you'd rather do your running start at home, just join us on Discord, where we will likely be doing word sprints. Discord link is on our website.
Feel free to come write with us even if you're not doing the 50K-word challenge this year!
