About us
Welcome! This is a new group (launched February 2026) for 45+ people who want to enjoy great events and meet old and new friends in a relaxed, no-drama environment. It's run by experienced Meetup organizers. Check us out! No group fee due for the first three months and only $10 CAD/year after that.
Our organizers bring their knowledge and enthusiasm from hosting popular, successful events in various other meetup groups, including the usual fun things (dinners, coffees, movies, walks, games, book discussions) as well as the less typical, like dancing to live music, cooking lessons, scooter tours, midnight kayaking under the full moon, Whitecap watch parties, and happy hours at high-end venues.
A note on the group's annual fee: We very much appreciate if you choose to pay the annual fee promptly upon joining, but also completely understand that you might want to take some time to check out a few of our events first. You have three months to pay from the date you’re approved to join. Payment options are via e-mail transfer or cash (in person). You’ll receive info about where to send the e-transfer when you’re approved to join.

Public Disco at VAG North Plaza: Free outdoor dance (DJs)
Vancouver Art Gallery, North Plaza, 800 block of Georgia St., Vancouver, BC, CAHere's a chance to dance outdoors downtown as the end of summer starts to approach (many, many weeks from now).
Public Disco has been holding all-ages, outdoor urban dance events like this in Vancouver for 10 years. This one is free. From the website:
"Curated for the second year by Dairy Free, the lineup brings all-vinyl sets from some of the city's most trusted selectors. An expanded record market returns after last year's success, joining a food market and the wide open steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
This is what Public Disco does best, placing dance music where it doesn't typically live, and making it feel like it belongs there."This particular Public Disco event is free and open to the public from 2-10 pm.
**But please note that our group's Meetup event starts at 7 and is for those who want to hang out together at this larger Public Disco event.Closer to the event date, we might also post a Happy Hour event somewhere close to the VAG - in case anyone wants to get "happy" before dancing.

Dogwood & The Shakers + Dave Monks + Cambie Happy Hour
The Cambie, 300 Cambie Rd, Vancouver, BC, CALet's go see the two bands playing tonight's Sunday live music showcase at The Cambie.
First up is Dogwood & The Shakers, led by Zander Wood. He's from Edmonton and was "raised on twangy honky tonk and blues. At 20, he lost 4 fingers after being run over by a freight train. After a year of recovery, he picked up his guitar again, donning a leather glove to cover his missing fingers, and dove into gritty blues jams and dive bars."
Hear/learn more about Dogwood & The Shakers on their website and/or their bandcamp page.
Then, another Cambie regular, Dave Monks, will play selections from his repertoire of old time-country, rockabilly, R&B, and Western swing.

I have two tables (16 seats) reserved for 5:30, a start time that is meant to give us an opportunity to socialize before the first of three music sets starts at 7.
Please note: This is not a drop-in event. RSVPing "yes" is a commitment to be there when the reservation starts at 6pm. After 6:30, I'll allow The Cambie to use any of our unfilled spaces to seat other customers.
However, it's totally fine to leave earlier than 10pm, which is when the music typically ends.
Also, I've confirmed that The Cambie's budget-friendly happy hour menu is now back to its usual, pre-world cup offerings, hours and prices (thank goodness). See the happy hour menu (available till 9pm) here.
No cover charge for the music.
Here's a great article about the history of The Cambie Pub.
